"So, where are we going first?" I ask. It's a stupid question really. It's almost a unanimous vote for the rides with only Alaska voting for a walk around the various stalls.
"Come on Alaska, we can do that after the rides. Besides, they have the Super Loop, and I know how much you love that ride..." Victoria says sweetly.
We decide that we'll start with the smaller, slower rides and move up to the bigger, faster rides. But by the time we actually reach the area where the rides are, we make a beeline straight for the biggest fastest ride we can see. So typical.
Victoria is almost bouncing with excitement. She has a very bubbly personality, which many people overlook due to the fact that she is also extremely self centred. But I guess most popular girls are the same in that way. Victoria has beautiful long flowing blonde hair with brown roots, and surprisingly, it's still natural. It suits her big brown eyes. She's slightly below the average height of girls our age, though somehow her head is often in the clouds.
"O-ma-gosh, I'm finally old enough to go on the Triple Terror you guys! I hope they have it this year..." She continues babbling excitedly, but I'm no longer listening. Ever since my brother died, I've hated the thought of heights and unexpected falls. So I really don't want to go on the Triple Terror.
"Aren't you excited for it to, Charity?" Victoria spins on her heels and starts walking backwards so she can look at me. I nod reluctantly. If there is anything I won't do, it's disappoint Victoria. I can't afford to have every single popular person at my school hate me. Which is pretty much everyone.
We arrive at the back of the line for the Triple Terror, and everyone groans in disappointment. Of all the rides at the carnival, the line for the Triple Terror is the longest. Some guys in front of us reckon we'll be waiting for at least an hour, so I offer to go and buy drinks or food.
I wander through the crowds, dodging past mothers pushing prams or being dragged along by young children, and running out of the way of the scary people on extremely tall stilts. By the time I reached a food stall, I had decided that I hated carnivals.
I ordered a pottle of chips and a can of drink for everyone, and then had to carry it all back to my friends again, balancing everything on a flimsy plastic tray. Luckily though, I somehow managed to stop anything from falling off, which was a miracle in its self.
When I returned, the others were about half way in the line, though they said they hadn't barely moved a metre, and that the line had just doubled in size.
"Hey you guys, I think I'm sunburnt. Oh, and I just got my skin tanned the other day too." Victoria pouted.
"Ha, did you guys hear the one about the banana that got sunburnt?" April says, unable to help herself.
"It started peeling!" Brodie finished for her, and they both crack up laughing, though I can't comprehend why the joke is so funny. It's just sad really.
"Oh, oh, here's a good one! I'm so sunburned, people ask me if red is my favourite colour!" Brodie yells, and the pair of them crack up again, and even Victoria joins in; giggling discreetly with her hand over her mouth. I laugh too, though it's not the joke I find funny, rather their reactions. It's nice to have people around me that know how to laugh and have a good time for a change.
After what seemed an eternity of waiting, we are finally at the front of the line. The man running the ride is tall and lanky, with limbs that seem way to long and thin to be human, and a pinched face that resembles a rat.
"Tickets please." he drawls in a bored monotone. We hand our tickets to him eagerly, and wait while he checks their authenticity.
"Okay. When you get on the ride, please sit as for to the right as you can, and remember to keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. If you are wearing sunglasses or whatever, take them off and put them in a pocket or bag. Thank you and enjoy the ride." he says, rehearsed.
