After what seems like hours the rain stops. Leaving my feet to splash into the scattered puddles. Each step I take I can feel another glob of mud land onto my legs and torso.

The mud sticks before making a squelching sound and falling to the ground.

A clearing ahead makes my heart pump. My hearts preparing to dive. I force my legs to run faster. I'm relieved my path is flat and is nowhere near any cliffs.

Steps from the clearing I can make out my car. The mixture of its paint and the sun momentarily blind me. But I push forward. I'm not giving up that easy. Not now.

I yank the door open. Thankfully, I accidentally left it unlocked. My keys lay in the center console. Without a seconds glance I speed of there. Moving as far away as I can.

Silently promising myself I'd never seek shelter in a forest again.
