i gathered my courage
and asked,
"what happened that night?"
your face fell
and your gaze landed on your lap.
feeling guilty, i held your hand.
it felt like fireworks were exploding in my chest.
"you don't have to tell me, you know," i mutter quietly.
you sighed,
and glanced at me.
"i want to."
you said.
then you told me.
you said that you are an only child
and that your parents fight
a lot.
you also said
that the night you texted me to come to your house
was the worst night
of your life,
and that your parents have never fought that badly.
i hugged you
telling you
that i'll always be here when you need me
you smiled,
and thanked me.
