chapter 3

The new guy

I made sure I was early enough to see him walk into the class, the next day.
The class was noisy and unorganized, but I still kept my attention on the door
just so I would exchange glances with him when he walked into the class.
"awwnn" Kimberly who sat diagonal from me, said almost in a whisper.
I turned to her direction to know the reason for her reaction, then I noticed she was looking at the door and giggling with Paaty her best friend.

Turning my attention to the door I met his gaze, and he held my gaze for seconds that felt like ages.
I returned my focus to my textbook just so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
 

After a while I raised my brows only to see him taking the last step the brought him standing in front of me.
I immediately replaced my surprise with a smirk but this time I wouldn't be the one to end the eye contact.

"auh" he started to say but stopped and scratched his jaw softly with his index finger.

The principal walked in before he could proceed,
everyone scampered to their seats and he also walked to his seat disappointed.

"Raymond clapah" see me in my office immediately, the principal said pointing at the new guy.

He looked at me sadly and tears already gathered in his eyes, but he walked out with the principal before I could examine him further.

After the principal's announcement abt an upcoming debate the teachers were unusually punctual, and no one had a chance for jokes till it was lunch time.

I ran out of the class ivn bfor the bell went off, and headed to the garden, my favorite spot.
The garden was almost empty bcos majority of the students were in the field.

I was about unwrapping my lollipop when I heard my name behind me.
I turned slowly till I faced Raymond, standing only a step away from me.

He looked sad
Or pale, maybe hurt...

"You scared me" I said, taking a step backwards.
"am sorry" he apologized.

"Never mind" I replied waving him off.
"Not for startling you" he said, taking another step, to replace the one I created.

did he just say "am sorry"
I thought.
He scratched his jaw again, exactly the way he did earlier in class.
"I don't think you have something else to say.  I would like to be alone" I told him flatly.
"Am sorry about what happened yesterday, I over reacted, I was rude... Unfriendly... and I got you upset" he said very fast like a preschool child who was threatened to give a perfect memory verse.

I looked at him straight in the face. He was abit taller than me I noticed, and his eye lashes were very long.
After awhile jerked back to reality.
I was almost ashamed of myself because he saw the effect of his cuteness on my face
gosh!!!!!
"its owk" I said with a sincere smile. "Am also sorry for going true your stuff, and saying you are rude" I apologized with a grin.

"It's kul" he said forcing a smile, but he did his best to make it real.

We stood there for more than a minute staring at each other. Neither of us saying a word.
The only activity being carried was the romantic scratching of the jaw by Raymond
Maybe it's a habit- i guessed

"Why did you look at me like you were going to kill me? When the principal called you to his office?" I asked him trying to act serious.

"I thought you exposed me to the principal" he answered sincerely.

"But why didn't you report me to him" he said, in a statement form.
But raised his left eye brow, notifying me that it was a quesion.

"Well, I figured out you wouldn't be able to survive a night in jail" i said. Making him smile real big.
"You smile?" I asked playfully.
he choked in his own small laugher, and shook his head before answering me.

"Ofcos I do smile..." he told me touching his jaw again.

"do you have a problem with your jaw?" I asked him laughing.

He frowned playfully and smiled saying "so you ve been watching me?"

Before I could say anything we heard the sound of the bell declaring lunch-break over.
 
"We should go to class" he said smiling.

I smiled back and we walked slowly into the claas, smiling and laughing without saying a word.

He walked to my seat and sat there waiting for me to finish talking with Kimberly who blocked my way as soon as I entered the class with Raymond.

"What is it Kim?" I asked absent mindedly, because I could think of nothing except Ray.

"He is new in this school and you are already throwing yourself at him" She told making it obvious that it wasn't a quesion.

"And when did you become my watchman and disciplinarian? hun" I asked her.
 
"You fool, you better stay away from him" she said threateningly.
"Why?" I asked.

"I have eyes for him, and you had better not ruin my plan", she said plainly.

"Puuufff,." I said giving a short wicked laugh.

"Go and run a plastic surgery on your face before crushing on a cute guy"
Seriously you should date Adiny your ugliness matches his" I said and winked at her, walking away immediately.

She stamped her feet angrily and turned to leave the class only to bump into Adiny.

She looked at me in rage and looked back at Adiny who seemed to be angry too.

"Perfect match" I said "or what do you think class?" I said laughing.
The whole class laughed loudly and some guys started making fun of them

I winked at her again.
This time sounding a warning to her never to threaten me.

"Miss trouble would have been your name instead of miss Randy" Raymond comented.
And placed his hands on his lips asking me to  SHUUSH.
The words I formed vanished immediately and he laughed at me

I laughed too and said
"It's not over, am gon get back at you.

A teacher walked into the class and Raymond went back to his seat...
