Ren grabbed his bag from the back of his wheeled chair, heading for the exit of his office cubicle. He draped the strap of his bag over his shoulder and checked his phone for the time. 8:00, later than usual, he usually arrives home to his loft around 7.
"Tododari, President says he has a request for you!" Ren's coworker calls after him.
"Me? It's time for me to go home."
"President said that it's really simple, you're the only one who can use illusion magic, this job specifically calls for it."
Ren sighed deeply and turned towards his coworker.
"What exactly do I have to do?"
"He wants you to find a man, he's supposedly of demon blood. President only wants you to confirm his suspicion. It's reported he kills people for money, all you have to do is fake a request and see if he accepts. If he does, President will have others look into it on the next work day."
"Why is this for me? What does my illusion magic have to do with this?" Ren asked nervously.
"You don't have to be nervous, it's because you're the highest power level of all of us. Illusion magic will be the most useful in this circumstance, it's said that illusions are the most effective against demon bloods. Not that we know much about them..."
"Where is he usually?"
"Most of the reports are from Wake avenue, by the old grocery store near your loft. It's on your way home. Here's his description." Ren's coworker handed him a small, lined piece of paper.
"Thanks. See you tomorrow, Akio." Ren said, placing the small piece of paper into his bag.
Ren walked out of the office building where he worked. Ren adjusted his work jacket, the wind grabbing at it. He pulled the small slip of paper out from his bag's pocket, it fluttered in his hand. He held onto it tightly, the wind was strong that night. Medium black hair, green eyes, tall.
"How am I supposed to find him by just this tiny amount of information!" Ren grumbled angrily.
Ren continued on his walk to his loft. It was dark and a little chilly that night. Ren had no idea how he was supposed to find this person, or if not finding him would cost him his job. As Ren walked home he peered into all the alleys and empty buildings. He cupped his hands and placed them on either side of his head, looking into windows. All the buildings were empty. He saw nothing and was getting cold. He shoved his hands into his pockets and sighed. A small cloud of his breath danced into the black night air, soon disappearing. Ren was nearing his loft and was still nervous about losing his job. He turned down an alley, determined to find the man the President requested him to. Ren was shivering by now, wearing only his work suit, having forgotten his larger, winter coat at home. Ren assured himself multiple times that all he had to do was lie, then hurry home. He could have others look into it. As Ren turned another corner he caught a glimpse of somebody. He only caught sight of the color of their shirt. The figure of the stranger clothed in black turned the corner out of sight. Ren hurried after the figure, trying his best to be quiet. He quietly made his way down the empty alley. The farther down the alley the more nervous he got. Ren slunk along the grimy walls, attemping to keep his shoes from clicking. Ren neared the next turn of the alley way, he shivered again.
"Where did you go?" Ren whispered to himself, creating another pale breath cloud.
"You know you're really not very good at being quiet." A raspy voice called out from the dark behind him.
Ren turned around quickly, terrified, his shoes squeaking, creating an echo. There he was, there was no doubt about it. Medium length black hair, tall, and green eyed. Except, only one eye was green. He had quite the handsome face, covered with a smirk only the devil would wear. The man leaned against the dirty alley wall, his arms crossed. His black shirt sagged around his defined collar bone. The large, strange brand burned into his chest showed.
"I..I'm here to make a request!" Ren blurted out, his voice shaking. Ren smiled sheepishly.
"You're an awful liar." The dark haired man said taking a step towards Ren. The man smiled, his voice low when he spoke.
Ren backed away from the man who stood taller than him, blushing. He found himself cornered, the man in front of him, his back to the wall. He was scared out of his mind, he was too timid to hurt this man. Ren rubbed the back of his neck in anxiety.
"I...I'm not ly-.." Ren was cut off by a hand on his throat. Ren struggled underneath the hand, standing on his tiptoes. Ren grabbed the the walls, scratching at them before trying to remove the mans hand.
The man who had grabbed Ren by the throat now leaned towards his ear.
"People like you don't make requests to people like me, also, you forgot to take off your name badge...Ren." The hot breath of the man tickled his ear, Ren shuddered.
Ren's eyes widened and began to water. His cold, skinny fingers grabbed at the man's arms. He was losing air and quickly. Ren realized the man had no intention of letting go. He was much larger and taller than Ren, he knew he couldn't get away, even if he tried. Ren's long eyelashes fluttered as he lost consciousness, his eyes closing. His head thumped against the strangers chest, his bag hit the ground, creating another echo. The sound soon vanished into the night. The stranger picked Ren up, his head laid against the man's shoulder. Ren's breath returned to normal slowly. The man walked out of the alleyway, leaving behind Ren's bag on the ground.
