after the whole cheesy rooftop shit hyunjin pulled, the two of them flushed and looked away. hyunjin didn't know exactly why he did so, seeing as he's flirted with jeongin in the past and gotten away with it but this time it was kinda different.
hyunjin shooked it off and offered the prince a small smile, "alright doll, why don't we go inside now yeah? you might catch a cold."
the younger nodded shyly as they went down the stairs, the prince's thoughts were haywire with hyunjin's words buzzing all over.
there was an awkward silence (kaw kaw kaw) between them, their faces still red, and they still couldn't look each other in the eye.
"so, uhmm, i hope you had fun." hyunjin coughed out as jeongin nodded.
"y-yeah, i did hyungie. thanks for dinner by the way."
"anytime."
they stood outside their doors, both mumbled a quick "goodnight." before they went inside their apartments.
jeongin had a small smile on his face as he entered his apartment- unlike hyunjin's, his was fully furnished and prepared. koo had jimin make sure what they were gonna stay in was accommodated and stuff.
his mind kept replaying back to the scene where he stared right into hyunjin's eyes as the older held his hand, he liked the way how that moment felt so authentic and pure.
like a breath of fresh air, it was different from what he usually experiences in the past. it wasn't filled with the fear of being found or anything of the sort.
it was a moment full of softness and warmth, he basked in hyunjin's inviting brown eyes (like how he hoped the older basked in his) and he felt the world stop right there.
he-
"where were you?" jeongin was snapped out of his trance when he saw his hyung seated on the couch as he stared at the prince with interrogating eyes.
"i had dinner with lixie and jinnie. i told you about it?" jeongin replied as chan nodded a bit,
"that was tonight? oh shit, i forgot. sorry bout that baby."
jeongin waved it off, "it's okay. it was fun, i had like, cereal for dinner and stuff. also, where were you? i hadn't seen you after you and jiminie hyung had a talk. is everything okay?"
chan bit his lip, he contemplated on whether he should tell the boy or not, "yeah baby, everything is fine. i just had to do something important."
jeongin tilted his head, curious, "really? what was it hyungie?"
don't tell him.
don't tell him.
don't- ah, fuck it."he made me talk to this psychic, woojin. he said he could help us and all he did was say bullshit about asaving sword and the kingdom and shit." chan sighed, he cursed himself for falling victim to jeongin's puppy eyes and cute disposition.
fuck. he was so adorable.
jeongin's eyes lit up at the sound of what chan had said as he clapped his hands excitedly, "that sounds fun! we should do it chacha!"
"did you just call me chacha? like after the dance?"
"i did but enough about that! let's save the kingdom!"
"jeongin," chan started, "you do know that the reason we moved here to emerald city was to stay low right? well, saving the kingdom isn't exactly staying low."
"this is my kingdom hyung," jeongin whined, "what use am i as a prince when i can't even stand up for my people?"
"they don't have to know you're the prince," chan reasoned as he got up as he placed his hands on jeongin's shoulders, "you can stay low and blend in with the people here."
"dirt and gold are found in the same place but that doesn't give them the same value." jeongin snapped at chan as he removed the older's hands on his shoulders, "i can pretend to be a commoner all i want but that doesn't mean that the guilt i feel as the prince won't eat me up every day knowing i can do something for my people and not just act like a regular serf."
"my mother died for this kingdom, she fought with all she had. i have to do the same, i wasn't raised to be a coward hyung, i was raised to be a pureblood. a prince."
"listen to me." chan glared, "you want to talk about fucking death? my family DIED in that war, jungkook could be fucking dead right now as we speak, hell, jimin hyung is probably dead too with his rescue mission. are you sure you want to join the list of casualties? are you sure you want to put your head on the line for these people who didn't even know you existed?"
jeongin stepped back a bit from chan's words, his fists clenched by his sides, "fuck you hyung. you're fucking selfish! people's lives are in danger and you said it yourself! our loved ones put their blood and spirit on the line for us to be free! why can't i do the same?!"
"BECAUSE YOU'RE ALL I HAVE LEFT JEONGIN!" chan screamed at him, the prince flinched as he listened to chan rage.
"EVERYONE I KNOW IS FUCKING DEAD! I CAN'T LOSE YOU TOO! I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE SELFISH! I- I AM ABSOLUTELY SICK OF PEOPLE DYING BECAUSE OF US! I CAN'T AND WILL NOT PUT YOUR LIFE IN DANGER JUST BECAUSE YOU DECIDED TO WAKE UP ONE DAY AND DO SOMETHING HEROIC!"
jeongin saw the tears fall from chan's eyes as the aussie furiously wiped them away, he shooked at where he stood but he continued to speak, "i- i am done being left behind, i am done with this. you can just let this go, w-wait for a revolution. we don't have to be the ones to start it."
"are you hearing yourself right now?!" jeongin said in disbelief, "THERE IS NO REVOLUTION. no one is going to start a fucking revolution!"
"then let it stay that way! p-please! we can be happy here!" chan tried but jeongin shooked his head furiously.
"HOW CAN YOU BE HAPPY KNOWING PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING AND YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? GIVE THEM A REASON TO FIGHT! THAT THEIR PRINCE IS ALIVE AND IS READY TO FIGHT FOR THEIR LA-" jeongin snapped but his eyes widened when he saw chan raise his hand at him.
chan was going to hit him.
their eyes widened in surprise as jeongin stepped backwards in fear.
chan had always been patient with him, no matter the circumstance.
chan had always been reasonable.
he would never do anything to harm the prince, and yet, here he was, ready to slap him right across the face.
"j-jeongin i-" chan tried to approach him but jeongin stepped backwards again.
"no, d-don't you DARE come closer!" he stuttered as he tried to reach for the doorknob.
"jeongin please! i- i didn't mean to!" chan tried as he reached for his hand, jeongin shooked his hand off as his eyes glowed green with fury.
"i said, leave. me. alone." he snapped as chan tried to plead with him with his eyes, showing him that he didn't mean to, that his emotions are all over the place.
chan sighed to himself as the door closed loudly as he watched jeongin leave.
