Scenes 21-30

21. EXT. THE CAVE

KANE DUROS glances back over his shoulder, sensing a presence. His trigger finger wraps tighter against the BLASTER RIFLE. KANE shifts his gaze upwards, noticing a sheer cliff face at the outer edge of the forest. Against the rock wall are some small caves and ledges. As KANE progresses further, he hears heavy breathing. KANE attempts to turn around before he realises the true origin of the breathing, filling KANE with a sense of dread.

A rift in the force beckons to him. It forges a path in the forest and gestures him towards a cave at the foot of the rock wall.

KANE hears the breathing sound return, getting heavier in volume before a voice cuts its shrill gasp short.

VADER(V/O)

Kane...

KANE continues to walk towards the end of the forest. He pauses for a moment before entering the cave. The light behind him drops away as he moves further into the cave. KANE extends his hand out in front of him and feels for the way. He senses an object in the cave and draws it towards his hand, grasping a lightsaber. He presses its button and a red beam of light shoots out; glowing red as the crimson blade of a Sith LIGHT SABER. The blade illuminates the cave around him and KANE uses it to light the path that lies before him.

KANE scans ahead, watching as a flicker of blue light shoots out across the floor. KANE hears a spark sound and then a concentrated beam of lightning sparks out in front of KANE'S FACE. KANE hears a loud cackle following the lightning strike. KANE'S eyes widen against the RED GLOW of his lightsaber blade. A figure emerges from the direction of the lightning. Its long black hood covering the opponent's identity, but KANE does not need to see a face to know the dark lord PALPATINE. A bolt of electricity shoots out towards KANE but he blocks it with the blade of his lightsaber. The energy crackles as the blue shards of lightning disappear into the glowing blade.

KANE again hears a loud sinister cackle. KANE readies his stance as another LIGHTSABER emerges. His opponent draws out a matching RED LIGHTSABER, which hums only inches from his own blade. THE CLOAKED ASSAILANT launches a ferocious series of attacks which KANE desperately fights back. The next wave of attacks sends him to his knees. KANE predicts the next bout of maniacal laughter, taunting him. Angered by this humiliation, KANE springs up off his knees and sends a flurry of blows at his attacker. Incensed by his own rage, KANE'S forces his opponent backwards. KANE lets the sudden strength of the dark side overwhelm him, we see KANE overwhelm his opponent in slow motion, parrying each attacking blow and striking at the black robe with aggression.

He knocks the robed figure to the ground and in an animal-like frenzy unleashes a wave of slashes across the robe, searing flesh with every cut.

KANE curses out aloud, in a bloodcurdling roar before he stops his frenzied attack, breathing heavy from the encounter. KANE stands over the body with his blade held out high above his head. Beneath his heavy breathing and the hum of the LIGHTSABER, KANE again hears a voice.

DARTH VADER (V/O)

Can you see it now Kane?

(A Pause)

This is your destiny. Join me and we can end it.

KANE glances down at the robed figure and watches the other lightsaber disappear, along with the body. The cave begins to illuminate as KANE allows the natural light of the cave to penetrate the dark side of the force, showing the darkness of the cave to be an optical illusion. KANE turns off his lightsaber. He gazes over at its hilt, almost expecting it to disappear as well. Confused and jilted by the experience, KANE wanders out of the cave and tries to get his bearings.
