Max's POV:

It's around 3 in the morning when I get home and Parker is still up watching tv in the living room.

Oh yeah Parker is my little brother by the way.

His first name is Maxwell but everyone calls him Parker aka our last name because I took Max.

Dibs I guess for being born first.

As I walk in he stares at me then back to the tv.

I hate coming home and he's still awake.

He usually stays up to make sure I get in safely.

Which makes me upset because he loses sleep worrying.

"What are you still doing up kid its way past your bed time?"

He looks at me with a slight smirk "Yeah ok maxi pad I'll start going to bed at a decent time when you start liking boys."

Why just why do the sarcastic ways we inherit come out so smoothly.

I mean he does make a good point but then again he needs to stop worrying about me.

It's not like I'm going to leave him like our parents did.

"I do like boys, as friends so I guess that means bed and now." He rolls his eyes and goes to his room.

I scream "love you" and he just makes a grunt noise signaling he does too.

I cant blame the kid for worrying because I have worries as well.

Maybe not about the same things but just as serious.

-

Our parents left us when I was 14 and Parker was 9.

We're only 4 years apart but my birthday is 2 months before his.

We've had it hard but we manage. I mean as much as we can with me being his guardian and all.

Once LP aka our father went to prison, he lost all parenting privileges to us.

Oh and we call him LP because his idea of a dad was bs.

Now my mother wasn't any better but she was more of a mother than he was a father.

Plus she was the nice one.

But I guess not nice enough because she still abandoned us after he went to prison.

That's why and when we stayed with James.

We stayed for about two weeks until my crazy aunt BB came to the not so rescue.

She wasn't so bad but her way of life was kind of sketchy. She invested in older men.

All money and no sugar if you know what I mean.

And I didn't like Parker in that situation so once I turned 16 I asked to be emancipated.

It took a while because they couldn't find my mother until it was almost my 17th birthday.

And even though I didn't see her sign the papers, I was finally legal.

That's also when I filed for custody of my brother for my aunt, which the state almost didn't give us until my mother finally showed.

She handed all rights to her crazy sister but my aunt BB didn't have kids and didn't want to start.

So she accepted the terms and told me that If I got my shit together I could have Parker with no returns.

Which leaves us here, me a 18yr old about to be 19 and my 14 yr old brother in our apartment with the peace we have struggled to keep.
