Longing at the booth, he glanced around. He spotted a dark-haired girl, staring straight at him. It was the strangest thing, her hair seemed to be a straight dark brown, but could have been lighter it was hard to tell in the dim light, and her eyes...
He blinked to see if he wasn't imagining anything.
...Her eyes were a glowing violet. Beautiful, yet strange. She continued to stare at him from the bar. A commotion to the left of him caused him to glance to the side for a millisecond but he quickly returned his gaze to where the girl sat, only to find she was gone.
Weird...
He sighed, standing up to walk out of the bar.
"I've had one too many drinks." He said to himself.
He walked along to the bus stop. Even though he did own a car it would be hard to drive in the large city and he was drunk.
"Drunk? But you've only had one drink." A voice came from the alley.
He quickly glanced around, seeing only a stray cat he sighed.
"100% drunk, now I'm imaging voices." He continued to walk.
"Your not imaging," The same feminine voice said.
He quickly looked where the voice came from, it was the violet-eyed girl. He decided to call her Violet for now.
"So you aren't a figment of my imagination?" He looked at her questionably.
"I'm flattered but no. I'm real. And you're slightly underaged."
He hadn't meant to compliment her but he let it be, surprised by her knowledge.
"You're a cop?" She seemed too young to be a cop.
"Course not. More surprised by your actions." Violet said.
"What's one more year." At the age of twenty, drinking was a no.
"A lot really. And a fake ID? Really?" She looked disappointed in him. Though he didn't remember her. Was she one of his old flings? No. She can't be, he would remember those eyes.
"How would I drink if I didn't have one?"
"You don't. It's better for you."
Who was she and who did she think she is telling him what he should and shouldn't do?
"It's called I want to." He started to grow agitated.
"This is no way to cope."
"Cope?"
"With 'the breakup.'" She quoted the air.
He was taken aback, "How do you know about that? Are you one of Laura's friends?"
"Friend, no. But I needed to do a background check if I'm gonna hire you."
"Hire me? To do what?"
"To become a shifter of course."
"Shifter?"
"Yea like a shape-shifter ever heard of one of those."
"Yea I've heard of them?" He said with a slight question in his voice. This girl was on drugs, she had to be.
"So, you believe me?" She peered at him with curiosity.
"No. Why would I?" He wanted to get out of there and fast, Druggies can be dangerous.
"I guess you shouldn't. But I can change your mind."
"Sure you can." He said sarcastically.
She smiled at him then... disappeared. He glanced around, seeing the stray cat he saw before.
He shook his head to clear it. He bent down to pet the cat, trying to comfort himself.
"Don't touch me." Violet's voice came from out of nowhere.
He looked around but found no one so he began to stroke the cat. The cat scratched at his hand.
"I said, don't touch me!" The voice came clearly from the cat. He stumbled back and jumped to
his feet. He looked at the cat again and started to quickly walk away. Suddenly in the cat's place was Violet. She trotted over and grabbed his wrist.
"Uh-uh. You're not going anywhere." She looked at him for a second then dragged him through the alley out to the back parking lot.
"Wh-where are you taking me?" He tried to break free of her grip but her hold was strong.
"To my car." She looked at him as if that wasn't obvious. They reached a blue Lamborghini. She opened the side door and shoved him inside. Then she got into the driver seat, turning toward him.
"So I feel it fit to at least know each other's names. I'm Vanessa."
"Jared."
"Nice to meet you, Jared." Jared didn't respond and for the rest of the ride, they sat in silence.
They came to a stop at an abandoned warehouse.
"Hey, I don't want your job. I want to go home." He got out only to be pinned down by Vanessa, who suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Too bad, buddy." She grabbed his wrist, dragging him to the warehouse, "Boss wants you." He tried to break free but couldn't. She was surprisingly strong, for someone with such a petite
frame. He looked around for anescape but found none. What he found was much, much worse.
Around fifty sets of purple eyes, glowed at him from the shadows. As he entered the warehouse he had a feeling he wouldn't leave.
In the middle of the night, the cops were called by someone living in an apartment nearby. The caller complained of loud animal-like sounds and screaming. The next mourning the police showed up to the warehouse to find blood and ripped clothing all over the place. There was no sign of a body except for tiny pieces of human flesh here and there. One of the cops found a ripped wallet with a fake ID inside. Jared Carson was proclaimed dead a month later, his murderer was still on the loose and was unknown.
Kevin was at the bar when he spotted a pretty girl with the most entrancing violet eyes. She smiled and got up, motioning for him to follow. He walked out of the bar never to be seen again.
