Those men were not only there, they left flags, footprints, their own elements and debris from that mission and the truth in the following years a dozen astronauts did too .

Well, NASA was soon informed, only 3 people had knowledge and contact offline, so they ordered to descend quickly and not step or touch the moon until the situation could obtain the minimum security that this would imply for both of them and remember they waited much hours before go out , that was more than just a precaution.
