"My name is Mr. Damon. I'll be teaching you history until Mr. Eaton can return to town," The substitute teacher said. He was strange. He looked to be about 18, and his black hair stuck up on top of his head, while another strand hung between his eyes. "I'm going to take roll call now. Asher, Sabrina?"

"Present." She responded. It took awhile for him to get to my name, but when he said it, he said it like it was familiar.

"Elizabeth, Phoenix? Here," was what he said. It was strange because he didn't know me. I grabbed the locket that hung around my neck. Even if the picture inside was blurry, I never took it off.

Mr. Damon began his lesson. "Today I'll be telling you about legends and myths from countries long forgotten. Have any of you heard of the country of Fiore?"

"I have, though I'm not sure where." I answered his question.

"Only one. Oh well. Fiore had many villains and outlaws in their long history. The most nefarious of them was the black wizard, Zeref. Zeref was supposedly immortal, and he had lived for 400 years. Some say that he was a travelling nomad, who searched for peace, while many others say that he was a bloodthirsty maniac who searched for a device to annihilate the human race. What they didn't know was that," that was when he was rudely interrupted by Brodie, an idiot who thought he could do anything.

"Why did they believe in magic? None of that's real. Obviously." Was Brodie's brilliant way to annoy Mr. Damon.

"You must remember that these were ancient times, Mr. Singh. People believed in many different religions many years ago. Now, to continue. Zeref was suffering from the curse of contradiction. This meant that if he cared about people and their lives, they would all die around him. He lived for 400 years with the guilt of taking many lives weighing down upon his shoulders. I don't know about you, but in my opinion, that would be enough to drive someone mad."
The lesson continued on like this, for the rest of the class. I started to drift off, thinking about finding a way to get out of this school for orphans and find my two brothers. That was the one thing I was sure of. I had a twin, and a little brother. An idea came to me right as my name was said.

"Ms. Elizabeth. You've been asleep in this classroom for the past hour and a half. That's over an hour after your last class. It's a good thing that I have your class last," Mr. Damon said with a smile.

"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! I didn't mean to fall asleep during your lesson!" was the only thing that I could come up with.

"Don't worry about it. But I can't help but notice, the whole time you were in here, you had your fingers wrapped around some sort of pendant. Do you mind letting me see?" He asked.

"It's kind of personal. It's a locket with a picture of me and my brothers from when we were little, but the picture is blurry and something happened to cause me to lose my memory of them," I was glad that someone was concerned.

"I see. You should probably head to your dorm though. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you fell asleep here. I think you'll find that I'm a pretty cool tw, eh, teacher."

"OK. Thank you, and I'm sorry," I walked away.

For the rest of the evening, I thought about what it was he said. He stumbled over the word teacher.

"Yo Phoenix, how were your classes today? Did you like the sub for history? I think that he's pretty cute." That was Cassidy, my dorm mate.

"My classes were good. Mr. Damon was interesting. I fell asleep in his class for over an hour, and he didn't care. He's kinda strange." My wonderful reply.

"Well, don't make it a habit, you know. You never know what's going on with subs," Cassy said.

I yawned. "OK. I think that I'm gonna go to bed early tonight. Don't be too loud, OK? Goodnight."
