We lock eyes, and everything around us seems to stop.
Onyx's eyes hold my gaze steadily, warm and friendly. But all too stationary. Irises unmoving, eyelids unblinking. In a sense, it was like his brain was suffering a large short circuit and was struggling to calculate what he was seeing.
I, on the other hand, fell headfirst into the blue orbs that held my gaze. His eyes were the ocean, so full of life yet so uncertain. The blue-green hue carried his emotional currents, and before I could breathe, I was drowning. His eyes were like Prince Charming's. The colour was so perfect, there should be a crayon that colour. The blue crayon that I use to colour my sky, that I never have enough of. They radiate intensity, love, compassion, but above all, strength.
I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding, give him a nod and a smile, and break my gaze. My wolf whining at me to continue to become lost in our Mate's eyes. But I let him continue staring and turn my attention to Alpha.
'So everyone, as you can see-' Alpha Steele starts, addressing the entire table, 'The Everclaws have arrived somewhat early with a small guard as they wanted to scope out the land, and get a feel for the pack, before their regiment show and start training.'
He stops and lets the words sink in, but I'm too enthralled by Onyx's complexion and entire facial structure to listen. He looks as though he was built by the Moon goddess herself.
He had tousled, dark brown hair that was thick and lustrous which framed his faced in the gentlest way. His face, strong and defined, features carved perfectly. His cheekbones high and prominent, with honey skin, adorned with cocoa freckles. The sharp line of his jaw promptly made me forget all about what the Alpha said. His nose was slender and pointed, settled in the correct place between his eyes.
Atop his sculpted chin, lay a Cheshire grin. Albeit a crooked one, but one, nonetheless. His lips were thin but housed two rows of sparkling white teeth. I wished I could leap over this table and kiss that idiotic smile off his face. His eyes darken a whole lot, signifying that he was hopelessly attracted to me. I'm sure mine were doing the same. His alluring scent of running river water and wet bark swirls around me, making me dizzy with lust.
I rest my chin in my hand on the tabletop and get elbowed in the ribs by Echo. This snaps me out of my little trance and puts me back in the room.
'They will be bringing as many unmated wolves as they can from their pack also, so, we need three more cabins done up.' Alpha Steele continues, winking at the younger ones, namely myself, Mason, Finn, Octavia, Echo and Lyra. Jamie is too busy training to be the next Alpha. And Isaac is too small.
A subtle groan escapes all our lips, and the adults laugh.
'Don't worry, I know you were all finished today, so three more will be fine. Also, could you open the hall? It needs airing. You will be pleased to discover, that Lyra will not need a hearing either, the Elders agreed it would be okay to excuse that law as she is so young.'
Normally this would have infuriated me, but I was on Cloud Nine, and didn't have time for such futile matters.
I glance to my left and see Echo sneaking peeks at Onyx. And as much as I enjoy Echo's company, this peeking gave me the primal urge to hurt her. A growl almost escapes my lips. Instead, I jab a finger into her side discreetly and very carefully bare my teeth, showing off my canines.
She seems to get the message.
'Artemis?'
I perk up, hearing my name. Alpha Steele is looking intently at me.
