BIKE RIDES TO THE CAFE || HWANG HYUNJIN (HIATUS)

MOVIE?

It's one of the hot weekends of summer. Everyone's having fun outside but here we are, stuck working at our café. Well, its not that bad since our shift ends early today.

"Yay~ Our shift is finally done!" I say, happily.

"Hehe~ Let's go home" says Hyunjin.

We're on our way back home when Hyunjin asks

"We don't have any homework today, do we?"

"Yes, we don't" I said.

"Since its Saturday night, wanna watch a movie or something?" he asks.

"Sure~ Sounds like fun!" I replied excitedly.

We're almost near our place when Hyunjin calls his mom and asks if we can go to their place.

Sigh...

"What is it?" I ask him.

"Bad luck. Mom's friends have come over so we can't watch the movie at my place" he said.

"Wanna watch it at my place then?" I asked.

"Is that fine?" he asked.

"Yup!"

We both go inside my apartment building and park our bikes. My apartment in on the first floor so we went to take the stairs when...

"Oh! HEY!"

"Oh no!" I said.

The landlady saw us. Hyunjin goes straight up to her and bows to show his respect.

"Hello auntie, I'm Areum's boyfriend, Hwang Hyunjin"

I look at him in shock. What is he doing?!

"Oh, yes I remember you from last time! Visiting Areum's place?" asked the landlady.

"Yes" he said.

"Okay, have a good time~" she said and walked off.

"Hey! Why did you go and introduce yourself like that?" I asked Hyunjin while we were climbing the stairs.

"Because last time she thought I was your boyfriend right?"

"Yes, but you should have told her that you're not!" I said.

"But then that would cause you trouble"

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"If I'm not your boyfriend, would she be quiet knowing that a guy friend is coming over to your place at 7 pm on a Saturday night? Won't that cause more misunderstanding?" he asked.

I finally understood why he did that. "Yes, I understand. Thanks for helping me..." I said, and rushed to open my apartment.

"Hey...Is someone shy?" he asked, poking my cheek.

"Hey! Just come inside" I said, pushing him inside my apartment.

"Woah!! Your place looks so clean and cute!" he exclaimed.

"Hey... Its not that neat" I said.

He roams around my place looking at everything when he suddenly exclaims "OMG! SO ADORABLE~"

I turn around to see him looking at my childhood picture which I have framed and kept on my shelf.

"NOOOO! Put that down!" I shout.

"Why? It's cute~"

"No, It's not!"I said trying to snatch it away from him, but I miss and he raises the frame above his head and laughs at me. My 160cm self can't reach this tall human's height. But I don't give up, I tiptoe and jump trying to snatch the photo. In the end I can't.

"Here" Hyunjin hands over the photo to me.

"You're giving it?" I ask.

"Yeah, it's fine. I already took a picture of it" he said, giggling and runs away.

"Yah! Hwang Hyunjin!" I chase him.

He jumps over my couch and while he does, his phone falls off his pocket.

"Aha!" I said and rushed over and picked up his phone.

"Oh no no no no!! Give it back Areum!" he shouted.

I try to unlock his phone when...

"Did you see it?" asked Hyunjin, cautiously.

"Hey..What is this?" I asked him.

His wallpaper is of me petting Haneul in our school.

"When did you take this picture and...why is this your wallpaper.." I asked, flustered.

"You were busy petting Haneul, it was too cute to ignore so I captured it~ And doesn't it look like those images on Tumblr? Good scenery, aesthetics~" he said.

"But still!"

"It's fine, don't worry. No one looks at my phone anyway"

"But.."

"Hey, that's enough! Let's watch the movie!" he said pushing me towards the couch.

Hyunjin fiddles with the remote for a while before he asks "You're fine with a horror movie right?"

"Yes!"

Oh no, I answered too fast! I do like horror movies but I watch them in the morning since I have trouble sleeping. Well, I don't have a choice now.

*Hyunjin's POV*

It's been an hour since the movie started and the scary scenes are slowly coming up. I have my hand on top of the couch and my hand falls on Areum's shoulder. I could feel her flinching when a scary scene comes up. I slowly pat her head and ask "Are you scared?"

She puts on a strong front and says "No, I'm fine"

But I can see the fear in her eyes as she continues watching the movie. Look at her acting all strong~

As the movie proceeds, she keeps shrinking into the couch and I feel her slowly coming closer to me without even realizing. I give her a small pat on her shoulder and reassure her that its fine. She looks at me with her little doe eyes and nods.

The movie is over and she's finally happy. It's 10pm so I get ready to leave.

"I'll get going now" I said, getting up from the couch when I felt a tug at my shirt.

Areum is tugging at the end of my shirt and has a blank look on her face.

"Oh sorry!" she says, leaving my shirt.

I bend down to match my height with her sitting on the couch. I hold her hands and ask her "Are you scared? Want me to stay with you for sometime?"

"Yes.." she says, hesitantly.

"Will you be able to sleep at this rate?" I ask her.

"I don't think so..." she says looking down.

"Ask a friend to come over"

"Yes! I can do that!"

She calls her friend and hangs up with her face sullen.

"What happened" I ask her.

"My friend has an important assignment that's due tomorrow so she wont be able to make it" she said

"Oh what do we do now..."

We look at each other.

"You want me to stay with....you? If you're fine with it....that is...." I ask.

"Is it....okay?" she asked hesitantly.

"Yup..."
