After Shan Yu came back from the farm, he quickly made some dumplings to share with the Fa family, Yao and Mei, Ling and Ting-ting, and Chien-Po and Su. He massaged the dough, carefully stuffed the stuffings in, shaped it, and steamed it.
When he opened the steamer when the dumplings were ready, he sniffed the fog that was filled with the aroma of the dumplings. He picked one up, blew it for several seconds, took a small bite so that more heat can come out from the stuffing. He blew the inside of the dumpling for several more seconds and chewed the whole thing. "This is perfect..." Shan Yu said mellowly. He picked all of the dumplings out to cool them. When he counted, he realized he made more than usual. "I'll just add more to Fa family." He moved more dumplings to the tray for the Fa family.
He placed every plate in the basket and covered it with a cloth so that the heat stays there but the moisture stays on the cloth. Shan Yu whistled as he walked along the road.
"Thank you, as always," Yao and Mei gratefully received them as they thanked him.
"Thanks for treating us," Chien-Po and Su joyfully took the plate.
"Thank you, Shan Yu, that rhymes you know?" Ling joked around with Shan Yu as he gently received the plate. Ting-ting laughed at the joke also. Shan Yu smiled brightly.
"Thanks, Shan Yu! We'll enjoy them!" Mulan said as she thankfully received a plate. "You know, you should open up a restaurant!"
"Oh, that's nonsense, Fa Mulan," Shan Yu replied modestly.
"But your food is delicious!" Mulan said. "I'm sure a lot of people would pay for your food!"
"You're just saying that," Shan Yu added modestly.
"Well, it was just a piece of advice, but I'm sure you'll be a great restaurant owner," Mulan said.
"See you next time, Fa Mulan," Shan Yu said as he bowed.
Shan Yu went to the market place to see if any stores were still open in the evening because he needed to buy more flour and rice. Surely they were open so that he can buy a sack each.
"Thank you, as always!" Shan Yu said.
"No problem, Shan Yu!" The rice shop owners greeted him back normally. "Good thing that you don't have to deal with those trouble makers anymore! You did the right thing!"
"I think so, too," Shan Yu responded quite modestly.
"Don't let anyone mess with you!" The flour shop owner said.
"I won't, heh heh," Shan Yu chuckled modestly.
After buying all the groceries he needed, he headed back to his home and thought about the menu. He had some dumplings left, but he knew that those wouldn't be enough for him. If I have eggs, then that'd be enough for a side dish. Or maybe I should catch some fish, Shan Yu thought of the menu as he walked along the road. While he was thinking, he saw an old man trying to lift himself up with a stick. Shan Yu quickly went towards him and helped him up. "Sir, are you all right?" He asked.
"Hungry... need food..." the old man said weakly.
"My house is not far," Shan Yu offered. "Would you like to eat at my place?"
"Please..." the old man groaned.
Shan Yu carried all the groceries with his right arm and helped the man with his left arm. Shan Yu had him sit in his house and brought the leftover dumplings for him. The old man shoved a bunch of dumplings in his mouth that made his mouth full, and he started to choke on the stuffing that clogged his throat. He pounded his chest repeatedly while Shan Yu hurried and grabbed a bucket of water. The old man quickly washed the clogged dumplings down his throat and breathed heavily.
