HIERO
The early morning sun was creeping through the small opening of my curtians. The street in my neigborhood is normally noisy. This morning it was as quiet as if a baby were sound sleep in dreams. Calm and content. I looked to my floor where a trail of clothing was made by her and I. I'm still in disbelief of this and of myself. Something about her I can't shake off. I know exactly what it is. I'm just not sure I want to bring it up to her. What happened between us, might make her think that I am exactly like all of her guy friends. Well, our friends. Maia must know about it or Jade would have definitly said something to me and treated me a bit more in a stand-off way. She was already standoff with me a little and thought I was going to hit on her just like every other guy. I don't blame them if they do, she's beautiful. She didn't have to say it, her attitude toward me when she picked me up said it all. I was nervous. Nervous to meet her. Nervous to meet the sweet and beautiful, yet holds a guard up so high, you have to break through it with a wrecking ball of - whatever it may be to let that down, which I've heard, one cannot.
You're probably wondering what it is that I remember about meeting Jade. We'll get to that. There's another topic at hand about the elephant in room or I should say, my bedroom. Jade was quite tipsy last night, but not plastered and she trusted me. She trusted me with everything under the moon last night. Including, bringing her to my home and in my bed. I had the honor of seeing her Princess Jade and the honor of obeying every command she threw at me, starting with passing Maia's car keys over to me. I didn't understand why that small gesture was such a big deal. She was going to get her drink on and I was the sober one who was able to get her home safely. It's literally no thing, right?Last night when I was passed this Olympic torch symbol of the keys, I showed Maia, who was standing wrapped in Arthur's arms. I had to let her know of Jade's current standing status and she and Arthur laughed at me with suprise.
"She did what?" Maia leans forward at me with her mouth open. I waited for Arthur to mock me about Jade suddenly making me her bitch, but he was just as shocked as Maia.
Arthur with his hands draped around Maia's body from behind her, he lowered his brow. "That's big shoes to fill, man." He was laughing or smiling or even giving me his dick-wad of a fucking smirk that makes want to ruin his pretty face. What the fuck does that mean? "Take care of my car, Hiero. Actually - " she pauses, "Can I talk to you for a second?" she turns around and wraps her arms around Arthur and kisses him. "I'll be right back." she assures him and I turn my head to Jonah, who isn't paying any attention to Art's fuckery. "Follow me." Maia turns back around and I follow her out to the back patio. I check the battery to my pen along the way. I've got a ways to go before it runs out and with the strange way things are going tonight, I might finish my cart before the night is over. When we get out to the bench Jade and I were just sitting on, Maia turns around to me with seriousness on her face, "Take care of my friend, Hiero. I just- I just can't believe she's being this comfortable with you."
"What are you chatting about?" I throw a hand out in defeat, I ask. She still has this confused look on her face.
"She's letting you drive her home, Hiero." So? And I'm supossed to know what that means? "What are you going on about? Just tell me." I say in fustration. I don't like these weird skip around games girls like to play and I'm supposed to be some magical unicorn mind reader. She gives me this cold stare but the same cold stare she usualy gives to -
"Oh shit." she looks over my shoulder behind me and I turn around to see who has come to her horror. Yup. I see a thin dark brunette light skinned guy. He looks Italian and no taller than me. He's got a red and black plaid button up shirt on with black jeans and classic black and white converse. A black hooded zip up sweater and a black hat on backwards. Darren. I don't know why I've just checked out this guy's entire outfit of the day, as the girls like to call it. I never give a shit about Darren when he's around, but something weirdly about him gave me a feeling he's going to be some sort of a threat tonight. He's not a model like my whole entire group of friends. He could be. He has his hands in his sweater pockets and he's walking toward us. Maia, I'm assuming since her reaction to him a second ago. I'm not really friends with this guy, but I know when ever he is around, Maia has it in for him like she wants to kill him. Katherine and Lilly are the same way when it comes to Arthur. I laugh to myself and then I catch myself as soon as the laugh comes out of my mouth. I put a two and two together when I realize -
"What's up, May." Darren smirks but his eyes are focused dancing around the patio for someone.
"It's My-Yuh." She fires back annoyed with his presence. She stands and her eyes seem like they are going to disobey any thought of being civil. There it is. The cold death stare. I put my pen away and sit behind Maia in case he tries to start shit with her. Maia turns her body around to me ignoring Darren, "Let's go inside. Art is waiting for me." He's a prick. No, he's not. I stand and follow her back inside to the hall.
"Wait." I say, slowing her down ahead of me. She turns to me like nothing happend. Like we weren't just in the middle of a conversation. The reason for going to the back patio in the first place.
"What." she says clueless and clearly focused on getting back to her little rapper, Emcee Prick. I shrug and shake my head a little with my hands out, "Jade?" I say. Hoping to bring her focus back on why I have her trust in my hands, tonight.
"Oh." she remembers, "Yeah." she staring up at me with her brows lowered at me, "Jade." she sighs and starts to twist her hair not knowing what to say now. I raise my eybrows waiting for her to finish. "Just - get her home safely. I don't care about my car. Just get her home safely and make sure that it's -" she takes one last look out to the back patio where Darren is. "- you. Just make sure that it's you that takes her home. Your house. Hers. Just make sure it's not with -" she gestures outside with a snarl in her lip, "- him."
I fucking knew it. "Him?" I ask. This should be easy. But-
"and promise that you won't fall for her, Hiero."
"I barely know her, Mai." I say.
"But you do, and you will. Hiero, I can't chat about this now." her eyes keep dancing around looking for Arthur and I know he's probably left like the douch bag he is.
"Fine." I'm defeated and now I'm just going to sit at the bar and observe and stay the hell out of everyones way. Wait for the night to be over.
