10:00 a.m, they came without warning. They burst into our homes while everyone was oblivious and began to drag us out one by one.
10:30 a.m, they lined us up side by side. Family by family. Then it happened, all the kids were taken their hands bound and gagged then thrown in to a vehicle.A car with so many windows it was begging us to watch them and question what they were about to do. While we watched unable to tear our eyes away as blood spilled and bodies fell.
Legion is what we call them and ominously their appearance fits it. Red eyes, sharp teeth, a colossal figure and dressed all in black as if they were going to a funeral. Though it seemed that their attire fit this moment perfectly.
Minutes turned to hours and hours turned to days, days upon days we were trapped in the vehicle. Fearing for our lives with every breath we took.
Growls and whimpers could barely be heard from us and we prayed that they couldn’t hear them either. On the fourth day the vehicle finally stopped and one by one we were dragged out. They lined us once again and branded us with letters of our value. Those who didn’t meet their expectations were taken to a closed off building and all that was left was screams and laughter.
More and more taken until there was only twenty were left. We were brought to a dungeon like area and given dirty water and moldy bread.A group of kids who were older and stronger looking instantly took charge and only gave the bread too each other leaving none for us. The next few hours they went crazy. Babbling about nonsense but what scared me the most was there eyes. They were beginning to turn red, as red as the Legions.
They circled and loomed above a boy not much older than me. They began to gang up on him, and I did nothing but sit on the sideline as they tortured him.I did nothing when he looked at me with pleading eyes. I turned away and tried to make myself as small as possible in the furthest corner of the room.
I awoke with a start not knowing when I had drifted off but all that remained was me and the doe like boy laid beaten and bruised on the floor.
I slowly crawled towards him and began to tear up my dark blue jacket into small strips of cloth to wrap around his wounds. Unaware and unconcerned as the other children appeared out of nowhere. Whispers circled me and the boy began to stir.
When he opened his eyes I held back a gasp, there right before me was one red and one blue eye staring back at me.
“Hello?” I spoke with such uncertainty that my voice had stumbled. Then an ear splitting scream erupted from him. He screamed and clutched his red eyes yelling non-stopped that it hurt, and I grabbed him and held him in my arms and began to rock him back and forth and hummed and old tone my mother one sang for me when I got scared.
Once again seconds turned to minutes and finally after what seemed like forever he was and tired out.
It wasn’t long before laughter could be heard and there right before us all was the Legions, wearing the sickest smile I have seen in my life, and with them one food and lots of it. One by one the others started to close in around them. With hands held out, child after child begged for food yet none was given, and I (the youngest of them all) sat in the farthest corner away from the lies and the terrifying smiles. Some of the adults made sure we were all clean and presentable and sat us row by row like cattle to be auctioned off. Several people walked by and look on pass me by to choose another.
When the days were over there were only two left, me and the boy. As I went to go back to my room soft footsteps followed not far behind me. When I glanced over my shoulder there once again trembling like a leaf in the wind.
Stopping I turned around, “What do you want and also why were you staring at me throughout the whole ordeal?” I softly as if not to scare him off.“I was wondering if it would be alright if I stayed near you until we’re separated.” his voice trembled so badly that it made it impossible to deny his request.
With a slight nod my head I gestured for him to follow. When we arrived to the room from before there in the middle of the room stood a woman. Who had knee length golden blonde hair and fair skin, but when she turned around she had red eyes, eyes and dark as blood.
I backed up bumping into the boy and when I looked forward again she was smiling. That was the one thing that should have raised a red flag but it didn’t. She was missing one of the characteristics the others had and that was the sharp teeth, hers was strangely human like.
“Hello dears,” she spoke faintly, “I will be your new, oh how do you humans say its, mother. You young ones will address me as mother and nothing more. As for your names, for you girl it will be Crimson and you young man it will be Blade. Now follow me and be good.”
I glanced at Blade, grabbed his hand and began to follow her aware of others watching every move we make. It was a long walk so I tried to remember anything more of my past anything and began to question everything, like why didn’t my so called father ever say my name. Why didn’t he resist at all during the whole ordeal? I was so deep into everything that I ended up bumping into our new “mothers” back.
A gasp could be heard from Blade causing me to look up and the room didn’t fit anything I had come to believe they were, but that was only a cover up for the awful smell that felled the area. It smelled like death, and the smell was so overpowering that it caused both of us to puke. Moments passed and “mother” did nothing but stand there with a smile.
She smiled while calmly saying, “I’m sorry for the smell my last children tried to escape so I had to punish them a little.” She walked behind us and gently pushed us inside no matter how much we tried to resist it wouldn’t last long.Clinging to each other, I glanced sideways at Blade and as I saw him trembling. With all the courage that I could gather I glared in front of me and made up my mind to get us both out even if he had a red eye. No matter what we were leaving. One way or another...
