Second Chance at Love

Confused

Emma heard the door closing in the Background. She was looking up at the sky, at the place where the star she named "Sister Star" would be at night. Sutren was still her main topic in her mind. She found her murderer and nearly got killed as well in the process. But letting go seemed still unfair and disrespectful.
"Hey."
Thayers voice cut through her thoughts. As he was standing in the Sunlight he looked gorgeous as alway. Brown hair. Melting eyes. And a T-Shirt that reminded Emma how fit he was.
"Hey", she answered after staring at him a little to long. Emma totally unterstood what Sutten had seen in him. Not just physically. Thayer kind of rescued her and was one of the first ones not to hate her for what she did. There has always been an understanding between them. Talking with Thayer seemed so easy and comfortable. Not even Ethan gave her this kind of feeling sometimes.
"Enjoying the book?", Thayer asked after an awkward silence.
"Yap."
Reading books was one thing Sutten and her did not have in common. Emma loved a good read, while Sutten did not want to pick up any kind of book.
"How are you feeling?" Thayer asked her that a lot. And she could never lie to him. It was as if he would se right through her.
"Confused", was the only word that came into Emma's mind.
"Still because of Ethan."
And this was the first time he was wrong about her.
"Oddly not."
Thayer sat next to her. To close for her taste and not close enough.
"Not?"
Their legs were touching and Emma could smell his cologne. In that moment she remembered her first kiss with Thayer. When he thought she was Sutten. Kissing him felt so easy. But there was a tiny voice in her head asking how Sutten would feel. She looked up from her clenched hands and stared right into Thayers eyes.
"Are you happy?", Emma asked suddenly. Looking down again.
"Right now or with my life?"
"Both."
"Yes. Not really"
"Oh." Emma did not know what to say to that. But what did she expect. Thayers life was not the best and that was not a secret. So why was he happy at the moment? Because he wasn't at home with his complicated family?
"Why are you happy right now?"
"Because no matter how complicated my life is right now, I live. And I am trying to make the best out of it. And Sutten death has made me realize even more that life is to short."
"Suttens death is such a shame", Emma mumbled.
"It might sound weard but there is a good part in all of this", Thayer said, "We met."
