Synopsis: Kagome was orphaned as a mere infant and grew up in many orphanages. One could not keep her for very long since she broke almost everything she touched. She did not know her own strength and every time she was adopted, in less than a day she was returned. She was an unusual child and no one wanted someone who didn't fit in. Can she find somewhere to stay? Somewhere where she will be welcome and maybe find love? Can she find a family to belong or will she forever be an orphan?
Chapter 1- An Orphan
"Kagome! Get down from there now!" yelled a woman in her mid thirties "You see this is why you don't have a real family yet! You couldn't listen even to save the world." She was currently yelling at a child of about thirteen, who was swinging from the chandelier in the middle of the children's bed room. The child known as Kagome jumped down "Two things. One, I don't need nor do I want a family. And Two, I wouldn't want to save the world either. Pick the words you speak to me carefully because I am not as stupid as the other kids here." The raven-haired girl said calmly to the woman. "Plus I wouldn't listen to you I prefer to be alone, a family doesn't suit me. Maybe that was the reason kami-sama made me as an orphan."
The woman looked at Kagome like she was crazy, "You have got to be the first to say anything like that." She said quietly "Well Kira-chan, there is a first for everything." Kagome commented "Yea like you being adopted." Kira said. "Come on it is lunch time, you have to eat with the other children today." "Why? What is so special about today?" Kagome said excitingly. "Do I have to tell you?" Kira asked her "Yup! 'Cause how else are you gonna get me to behave?" Kagome said smartly. "Fine! We have visitors they want to adopt a daughter. They are very rich and will only pick a child with the most manners." Kira said while her head was resting against the palm of her hand.
"Oh really? Well as long as I get to wear what I am wearing, I will behave." Kagome said, much less excited now. "Fine." Kira said with a sigh. "Just, please, remember to be on your best behavior." She finished before turning to leave the room.
"Aw man I have to be on my best behavior. Well even when I am on my best behavior, I don't listen. Ha the jokes on her. Be nice to a rich family? No way, not me!" Kagome said while moving towards her bed so she could take a short nap.
In Front of the Building
"Father what are we doing at an orphanage?" A silver-haired 13 year old asked a silver-haired man. "We are adopting a child. A girl to be precise. It seems that all of my offspring are going to be males so I and Izayo decided to adopt a girl. She will be your age, Sesshomaru and she will eventually become as strong as the rest of the family." The man replied "Father, this is pointless. I don't need a sister. We have the rest of the family and no matter how hard you try she will never become as strong as us. She is human after all." Sesshomaru said coldly. "Please lighten up Sesshomaru, we are just looking today. We might adopt but we want your opinion too." Izayoi said in a soft voice. "Whatever." "Sesshomaru! You have better manners, use them!" scolded Inutaisho as he stepped out the car. 'Well let's get this over with.' Sesshomaru thought as he followed after his step-mother out of the car.
Chapter 2: A Place Where I Belong
Ten minutes after Kagome started to take her nap, she was waken up by Kira. "They are here, Kagome. It is time to get up." Kira said as she shook Kagome. "Who's here?" Kagome said sleepily. "The Taisho's, you know the really rich family that was coming to adopt a child plus it is half way into lunch. Come on you have to eat." Kira explained. "Yea-yea" Kagome mumbled while she got up. Before she left the room she grabbed her laptop and headphones then followed Kira out of the room and into the dining room.
Instead of sitting at the table she plugged up her computer and turned it on beside the couch that was in the dining room. "Kagome, come sit at the table." Kira said "But we have guests, it is polite to give them a place at the table. It would be rude of me if they didn't get a place at the table. So I will just sit here." Kagome said smartly. Kira gritted her teeth "Fine, You can sit there right now." "Plus I have to upload my stories for all of my fans." Kagome added.
*Ding ding ding* Just then the bell on the counter rang and Kira disappeared to retrieve the family. Kagome hooked up her headphones, put them on, and put some music on. She turned the volume up loud, so she couldn't hear anyone. Just as she finished, Kira returned to the dining room. Kira was about to say something but when she saw that Kagome had headphones on and she wasn't paying attention to anyone, she walked over to rip the headphones from Kagome's head but a man had walked into the room. So instead she walked over and shook her shoulder. Kagome pulled the headphones so that they were around her neck. "Yea Kira?" Kagome asked coldly. "The guests are here, Kagome. Don't you think it is rude to not say hello and to wear headphones?" Kira asked in a deadly sweet voice. "No not at all. I am not being rude, I just did not sense them there." Kagome replied in a voice that could rival Sesshomaru's tone. She turned her head towards the family but when she locked eyes with the man, she stopped breathing. "Um, honey? Do you think it is your beauty that did that to the poor girl?" asked the woman who was standing next to him. "No look, in her eyes. It's shock and fear I see not admiration." He replied in a kind voice that snapped Kagome out of her trance. She bowed her head to the woman before looking at Inutaisho again but this time she raised her head and bared her throat in a sign a submission to him. "She is trained in the way of the youkai. Do you think she is a hunter?" Sesshomaru asked his father, curious but he hid it well. Kagome's eyes darted to Sesshomaru though he spoke in a voice so low that a human should not be able to hear it. "No she is not a hunter. In fact she looks like a wild animal." Inutaisho replied "You don't have to bow your head in submission, you are not pack. I don't care for your actions unless they involve my pack." He said to Kagome. She smirked and nodded slightly. Kagome looked at Sesshomaru and cocked her head to the side, like a curious dog. Sesshomaru blushed slightly not used to the attention of this girl. Kagome shook her head slightly before pulling her headphones back up to her ears and focusing her eyes on the screen of her laptop.
Izayoi squealed. "I want her she is so polite and you don't have teach her your practices." She looked at Inutaisho with pleading eyes and he looked at Sesshomaru before replying "It is his choice, Izayoi." They both looked at Sesshomaru only to find him staring at the girl. Izayoi walked over to Kira "Excuse me? Kira-chan, what was that girl's name?" she asked her "Who? Kagome? She doesn't want to get adopted. She prefers an orphanage." Kira said. "That's right, I don't want to be adopted so stop thinking about it. This is where I belong. Alone. That is how I survive. Every other family that adopted me brought me back to the orphanage." Kagome said scaring Izayoi and Kira and startling Sesshomaru and Inutaisho, especially Sesshomaru since he was staring at her but he had not seen her move. "You want to be alone?" Izayoi asked her "But why? Why do you wish for no family?" "It's not that I want to be alone but kami-sama fated this for me so this is what will be." Kagome replied. "And what if kami-sama fated for you to be adopted by us? What would you do then?" Izayoi asked her. "I would constantly run away and one day I would not come back." Kagome said coldly. "But why?"
When Izayoi asked that Kagome's cold eyes cut to Inutaisho "Because of him. My family was killed by an Inu-youkai. A prince to be exact and he is both or was both. He is king now and I refuse to live under the same roof as him." She said in a voice that made even Sesshomaru shiver. 'Mate.' Growled Sesshomaru's beast 'That girl is our mate.' 'Mate? That girl cannot be our mate, beast. Plus how would we even get close to her if she is our mate?' Sesshomaru questioned his beast 'Yes, how indeed.' Said a voice that startled him and his beast. 'What?' Sesshomaru asked 'You were talking to your beast, no?' the voice said. Sesshomaru started to look around for the source of the voice. Suddenly his eyes locked with Kagome's, 'Hai. This Sesshomaru was.' He said. Kagome nodded slightly to him then moved back to the couch. "Do not try to get close to me. You will die." She said quietly before putting her headphones on. Sesshomaru looked at InuTashio. "She will do." He said before looking back at her.
