Waking up on a warm, sunny day was no longer the pleasure it once was. For fleeting moments, Sole forgot who and where she was, instead lingering in a glow of blissful ignorance as the light filtering through the cracks in the shack wall landed lazily on her closed eyes, and she saw the pleasantly soft red behind her eyelids before she opened them to the harsh sun that bit her corneas. Then the reality would kick in. She'd jump to her feet, leaden eyes snapping wide to attention, dreams lost but not forgotten. The settlement's sirens would wail in the back of her head, even if they weren't going off at that very moment. It was just her trained instinct to wake up at be ready at a moment's notice. The panic that gripped her heart lasted only a few seconds before she realized it was all in her head. Seeing as though she was already up, she'd begin her day, normally before the sun had even peeked over the horizon.

The morning she currently found herself on was different, however. Sole was roused from her dreamless sleep of night's grasp, musing over the lumpy bed that felt like she was sleeping on dirt and rocks. and she ran her questions through her head, asking herself who she was and where she was, just so she could grab at reality and anchor herself before flying into a frenzied panic of past memories. The first few days had been rough, as she always woke up thinking she was back in that cryogenic pod, waking for the first time. It had gotten better over the countless months off the ice.

Sole kept her eyes glued shut as the flow of thoughts and their loose connections to her waking life. She doesn't dwell on the more serious thoughts, instead opting to shut those out entirely. She puts a positive spin on the day's tasks, trying to see the glass as half full. Jogging to the city would be great for her health. Helping plant crops would fill her lungs with fresh air. Killing vermin would be entertaining and a good way to take out her frustrations. Happy thoughts were the one thing keeping her from giving in to Hancock's drug propositions. She promised herself she'd never end up in his den with a body pumped with Jet and Mentats. That wasn't to say she didn't envy his carefree lifestyle where everyone worshipped him like a God regardless. Because she was really, really jealous of that.

Eventually the steady stream of procrastinating thoughts ended in her mind, and that was when she knew it was time to heave her weary body up, throw on the same dirty clothes she washed every other week, and haul her sorry ass out into the morning light. Upon attempting to move her arm, however, she found that it was trapped beneath what felt like an iron bar that held her rigidly in place, in an uncomfortable position with her shoulders all bunched up and stiff. Right, she forgot to run that one question through her personal questionnaire; That being 'who am I with?'

"Mac," she said in a low, hoarse croak. Her throat was scratchy and parched from sleep. Her back was pressed tightly against his wiry frame, pinned to his body with no way to escape. She said his name a little louder, her voice gaining traction as it jump started back to use. It was obvious that he was awake now, but just feigning sleep to tease her. Sole wriggled her body and huffed in frustration when his grip only tightened around her, constricting her like a damn snake.

"I need to get up. Unlike you, I have a job. You know, to support us," she spat sarcastically, her voice edging on light playfulness as she tried to keep a serious face and tone. MacCready didn't give in, though. She could feel his lips, pressed to the back of her neck, turn up into a grin and he hummed in amusement. Of course he wasn't taking her seriously. He rarely did in situations like this.
