Claire's pov

After Steve left, I took a shower and got ready for bed. I heard a light tapping on my window as I walked out of the bathroom.

I looked out my window as a small rock hit my cheek.

"Oh shit I'm sorry, just wanted to say goodnight" steve said from his window next door.

"Ow and why the hell do u have rocks" I said leaning on my window seal.

"Uh" Steve said scratching the back of his neck.

"Goodnight Steve" I said closing my window.

The next morning my mom was downstairs and had breakfast waiting for me.

"Well this is a surprise." I said as I went to sit at the bar.

"Well we have some things to talk about so I thought why not" she said setting food in front of me.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Well I know I said I wouldn't be traveling a lot cause we moved over here but my job has insisted I go on this trip with them." she said.

"Mom we just got here"

"I know honey but I need to go, remember what I told you." she said.

"These trips keep a roof over my head, yeah yeah I remember" I said pushing my plate away from me. I didn't feel like eating anymore.

"I'm sorry Claire, why don't you invite Billy over and have one of those sleepovers where you watch scary movies and order a bunch of food, I'll give you the money for it." my mom said as she picked up a piece of toast.

"That sounds great if only I could find him, I haven't seen him or Max around anywhere and every time I ask Steve he gets all weird." I said putting my head in my hands.

I really missed Billy and I would give anything to be back in California with him.

Flashback

Billy and I were driving at high speed to the nearest beach. Like we always did.

"I'm on the hunt down after you!" Billy and I sang at the top of our lungs to 'hungry like the wolf'.

Billy and I had a special tape that only me and him could listen to. He even had my "crap music" on it.

"Here we are" Billy said as we parked.

"The beach is so much better at night" I said getting out of the car grabbing the blanket.

"I know that's why I bring you" he said lighting a cig.

He nodded his head, asking if I wanted one.

"Nah, I'm good." I said as we walked to the sand.

"That's what ya always say and then you take mine." he said.

"Yeah well why waste a perfectly good one when I can have yours Bills." I said smirking.

"I told you not to call me that"

For the rest of the night we sat there listening to the waves and talking.

Flashback over

"Just go mom I'll be fine." I said getting up from the table.

"You know I don't like these trips as much as you but I have to." she said loudly right before I closed my door.
