"so we missed school to tell us that there's a thing called, 'shadow monster' and that millie's family is hunters.. and that lilia got taken by the shadow monster, and lilia is possibly still alive?" noah recapped as he questions it.

"basically. yeah." finn says. gaten bursts out laughing.

"what's so funny?" caleb asks. "this whole thing. there's no way this shit is real." noah says. while laughing.

"yeah, i mean.. come on shadow monsters?" gaten scoffs. "yeah, if they're shadows.. then how does millie hit them or whatever? they're shadows!" noah says getting up from his seat.

"that is what it's called. also it's not a shadow. it's some creature. we just call it that." finn says.

"i believe it." caleb says. "well for us to believe it. prove it." gaten smiles at finn.

"how would i do that? caleb saw it! and so did i."

"well, that's you. maybe you guys just saw some stupid costume and think it was.. a shadow monster." said noah.

finn sighs and thinks. " i can lend you millie's book."

"millie's book?" gaten questions.

"oh. the one about the hunters." noah says.

"yeah. it's in her bedroom, and how would we get that?" caleb asked, crossing his arms.

"her window? i'll ask her. but we'll try getting in."

"what about her mom?" asked gaten.

"her mom is at work, i'm pretty sure. i told you this..i'll text her."

"i still won't believe till i see." says noah.

it was the end of the school day, and tom was at his locker looking for his little sister, but joe steps in front of him making him stop walking. "hello tom." he greets, saying it in a funny way. "uh, hi joe." tom responded.

"so on the test i got a d, is that good or bad?" joe asked. tom sighs, "joe, you need to study hard."

"i do!"

"HARDER!"

"what did you get, hm?" joe asked tom. "c i got a c." tom says.

"teach me your ways." joe begs. "study." tom answers, and joe rolls his eyes. "i need to go to college, tom. please help me."

"okay, when winter break starts. i'll help you caught up. kay?" tom says. "winter break? that's in two weeks." joe says.

"i know. tell maya or zendaya to help. they're the nerds in the group." tom crosses his arms. "well, maya gave up on me. and zendaya is scary if i don't listen."

"then listen." tom says.

"hey tom" joe pauses and looks at him. "those thing we saw." joe started to whisper. "i think they're monsters."

tom eyes widen. "m-monsters?" he stutters. "yeah, well i don't know? like.. it's a creature. can't we just shoot them up, and like.. we're hero's?" joe says, wrapping his arm around tom as they both start walking down the hall.

"tom, we can be hero's." he tells him. "but what if what we saw.. wasn't what we saw?"

"then.. oh well? but what we saw.. was some kind of creature." joe says. "look, joe.. whatever we saw," tom pauses. he stops and they both face each other.
