"Carla!!! OMG you have to see this new pic I found of a cute boy!!!"

"Rosie, I'm sorry but I don't want to see any "cute boys" because everyone either has a crush or is taken."

"But this guy isn't taken!" "He goes to Brick Wood High School right down the block!!"

I smile but at the same time I frown. It's not the same with Joshua, because he makes me feel like I am a normal person, not some weird, dumb freak. And plus, I'm still waiting for that one special phone call on my old Cellular Phone. He seems so close, but yet so far away from my heart.

I never had a real boyfriend in my life because my father, Paul Cortez, is so over-protective over me. He thinks that boys are "pesky" and they just want you to be their property when they put a ring on your finger. But I have a different opinion on older boys and what they want in girls. It seems boys want girls to be honest with them and their selves and not lie to them if something is happening. However, he doesn't trust me with these "older boys" because he does not understand some of them.

"You know, boys do come around and some of them stay forever," Father tells me.

"I feel the boy I thought I was in love with has a girlfriend or just doesn't like me anymore."

"Not so sure about that, Carla." "I heard that there was some strange person who was calling the entire block looking for someone named C.C."

My father sees my eyes open completely wide and stares at me with confusion.

"What are you looking at Carla!"

"I think I know that strange person...."

"It better not be a boy who you like, because I will beat up his a**."

"I understand you don't like boys, but some of them aren't as horrible as you think, Father."

There is silence for a moment and it became REALLY awkward for both me and my father. He decided to not freak out on me, and went to his bedroom to sleep off the "boys issues" that are revolving around me. It sucks a lot because I now cannot even contact any of my friends, because he will think it is a boy from Martin High School and start breaking my phone into pieces. But the good thing is, I always have someone on my side if any boy tries to treat me horrifically.
