The once buzzing room now sat in uncanny near silence. A scene of such devastation replacing the vibrant celebration.
The convention center was empty apart from the two of them, broken glass and overturned chairs covering most of the floor space in the massive room.
Calvin examined the dormant VR Unit as he approached it, cautious after what he'd seen.
"You're sure you saw them here?" Damon questioned, stepping carefully around the bits of glass and pools of drying blood.
"I know what I saw. They led the thing over to this Unit, then the lights start flashing and... they all just... vanished." Calvin repeated his explanation.
Damon sighed softly. He knew what this meant.
He had his obvious suspicions that his own tech was used to get the Nargacuga into the convention center, and now it was all but confirmed.
It was his VR Unit that brought the beast here, and his Unit that was responsible for three missing people, 12 innocent lives lost, and countless brutally injured.
"And we're the only ones that know about this?" he finally spoke up.
"Well yeah, of course you're the first one I'd talk to about something like this." Calvin responded.
"And I'm the only one you'll talk to." Damon responded.
Calvin looked to his father in shock.
"You mean we're not going to the police about this?" he questioned.
"Are you completely stupid?" Damon snapped, "No, you're right. Let's go tell Law Enforcement that our cross dimensional experiments unleashed a killer turkey from a video game that ate a few dozen people."
"But it was an accident." Calvin added quietly.
"Right. And they'll care so much about that." Damon retorted, "The Government would skin us all alive and take my tech for themselves. The whole company would go up in flames."
Calvin fell quiet as Damon stared him down for a few seconds before looking to the VR Unit.
"It's switched off, isn't it?" he questioned.
"Looks like it." Calvin answered, turning his own attention to the machine.
"Make sure it stays that way. I'm going to get Lance in here to take care of this." Damon continued, straightening his suit jacket as he carefully made his way out of the room.
Calvin gave his father a sarcastic military salute, glancing over the VR machine.
"So... where are we going?" TJ repeated his question.
"Do you ever run out of questions?" Mae returned, giving the lever another hard tug.
"Not often, no." Sean answered.
A heavy clunk signified the lever finally budging, a large metal door popping open almost an inch.
Mae used the lever as a handle to pull the door open all the way, waving the trio towards the doorway.
Sean led the way, trailed by TJ and Ryan. Once they were through Mae followed, stopping to pull the door closed behind them.
They had come to a large open room, pitch black with the exception of few scattered lights flickering ominously.
"...cheery..." TJ mumbled, looking around.
"Why can't the bad guy be hiding out in Candyland or something?" Ryan mumbled wishfully.
