Family Mother| YingShu Mi: A 57 year-old teacher who has incredible skills in teaching kindergarten through fifth grade. Having come from a foreign language school were students of all languages and ethnicity came to learn, she is skilled in many languages her best being English, French, Japanese, and Russian.
Relationship| Despite her having been forced to be taught by her own mother for a collective of eleven years, the two never grew close. For Samarra, her mother was always a teacher and she never felt a mother-daughter bond with her, regardless, Samarra loves and respects her mother and strives to have a nice and comfortable life much likes her mom's.
Father| Lee Feng Ban: A 58 year-old Advanced Technology and Mathematics University professor who has always been regarded with great respect in China, he has had the great pleasure of teaching in many places with different people. Much like his wife, he has taught many people and has learn English, Japanese, Spanish, and many other languages.
Relationship| Unlike her mother, Samarra has a better relationship with her father, while it isnt a great one she would -with great shame - prefer her father over her mother. While she doesn't see him as a teacher like her mother, she does seem him as a disciplinary and she respects him and thinks very highly of him
Older Brother| Jackie| A 19year-old, her brother is what her mother calls a "lost cause". Despite their parents efforts to have him choose a nice career path(not a doctor either) he chose to start a career as a kick boxer. This choice has made it hard for her parents to be proud of him and he tries to stay away from home as much as possible.
Relationship| While she might not ever say it, Samarra used to adore her older brother; she wished she was more like him and had the courage to do whatever she wanted with her life. However, the feelings are not shared and whenever her brother is home he makes it a point to torment her both physically and emotionally. His reason for hating her is the constant comparison that is done between the two; their parents always compare Samarra to him and it does nothing but fuel his anger and sadness.
Younger Brother| Kennedy: A small 9year-old who loves to have fun and look after other people. Despite being the youngest he can hold his own and has no problem with helping his sister around the house and with other things. He is also very passionate about school and he wants to be like his sister when he gets older.
Relationship| Of all of her family, Samarra prefers Kenny over them all. He is the only one that doesn't make her feel like she is either never good enough or too good. They loved each other's company and Kenny often sleeps with Samarra. The two take care of the house since their parents are both always busy - and because Jackie never does anything when he's home- they cook, clean, buy food, and deal with any problems that may happen.
Backstory When her parents moved to America while her mother was pregnant with Jackie, they were ready to take on any challenge that came their way. After fout years of struggling to get a good job the small family finally managed to get a break when her father was offered a job at Harvard, the world best college. At the same time her mother started a job as a substitute teacher at a local elementary all while being unknowingly pregnant with Samarra. Having kept the child's gender a secret, her mother was very disappointed when she had a daughter; she had wanted a boy. Because of this disappointment Samarra never had a happy childhood with her mother, while she wasn't abused physically by her she always felt as if her mother never saw any of her accomplishments and this drive Samarra to want to be the best at everything she did. When she was about five, her parents found out that their would be another child to be added to the family and their father decided it would be best to move to a smaller town where the kids could have more room to grow. With a recommendation from a friend their father moved to Hawkins Indiana a place he found lovely and the family settled down -thanks to five years of working at Harvard and her mother's jobs they were very well off and could buy a two story, five bedroom, four bathroom house with a large backyard and lots of grass...lots of it. While Jackie for in just fine Samarra stuck out, she was the smartest kid in her class and while the teachers never bragged about it she was compared and used as an "example" of what others should strive to be. This made it hard for Samarra to makes friends and she was often left out on things and bullied. Eventually, she gave up trying to fit in and she held onto her difference like it was a badge. Then she met a boy. His name was Lucas Sinclair and he set next to her in class for the 5th grade. He was the first person to talk to her on the first day and she was surprised by how persistent he was to make her talk, eventually, fed up with him pestering her she answered him back. The two instantly became friends whether it was their differences that drew them together or their seat placements, it's didn't matter, Samarra had a friend and pretty soon she had three more- all boys but she didn't mind, she enjoyed not being alone anymore.
