"NO!"  A single word bursting from the lips of their friend, their partner, their love Deandra.  Their time had come.  Blinking blearily, pain coursing through them and going numb, the body already shutting down, they closed their eyes for the final time.

"Bye Deandra.  I will... I will always love-" That was all they could get out before dying in her arms, Deandra's tears falling on the now-empty corpse.  The soul drifted, waiting now, waiting for their return.

15 hours earlier

"We are in a war.  How on Earth are we supposed to stop the enemies from just straight up bombing us?"  It came from one of the colonels.  A smart man but a coward.  He was what Aurora would call a chicken.  He stood there looking around the table, battle diagrams scattered everywhere.  It was Deandra that spoke up.

"We don't need to.  We just need to be faster.  All it takes is a bit of distraction here," she pointed to a tiny spot on the map, "and then we bolt.  Once we are out of the bottleneck we can surround them.  We have the godly power," she glanced at Chandra the pale woman in the corner.  She smiled slightly at that. An acknowledgment of her... unique life. "All we need is to surround them and pick them off one by one."

"We are sending them out to die!"  Chandra spoke up at this.

"The General is right.  We must act now.  Colonel," she looked towards him "I hear your fears.  I do.  But I won't let them die.  The distraction must be large.  So I will go with them.  You can be with the safer option.  The sneaky ones.  Seems to fit your style.  Weasel."  A collective gasp filled the air.  Eyes shifting back and forth between the two livid figures.  Would the colonel back down?  Or would they watch as another figure was taken down, beaten down by the godly figure before them?  It wouldn't be the first time.  And Chandra was not known to be the half to back down.  The colonel looked into Chandra's sharp-as-the-frozen-wind eyes.  He sighed then looked down.

"Of course.  I apologize for stepping out of line. General, I apologize."  Deandra nodded

"I will go with Chandra as well.  We shall attack at dawn.  It is when they are both present, making us just that tad bit more powerful.  Go. Alert your soldiers."  At that, they were dismissed, some grumbling, others pale, some hopeful.  They might just win this war.  Chandra stayed behind, pulling Deandra aside.

"General.  We will do our best.  You know that."  Deandra smiled.

"How could I not?"

"Then... know this.  I can feel it.  Time is calling us back.  Whether we win or not... I feel this is why we are here.  I'm afraid I won't get to live to old age with you."  Deandra sighed.

"Chandra.  Aurora.  Both of you.  All of you.  We will make it out here.  Alive.  And I will share the love of both of you.  Your time isn't finished.  Banish those thoughts."

"But time himself-"

"Banish them.  We have a war to finish, and a home to build by the edge of the sea.  Like we promised."  Deandra kissed Chandra smiling as the dust and sounds of war echoed around them.  They stayed like that, seconds feeling like an eternity and an instant all at once.  It was Chandra who broke the kiss.

"You need to sleep, General.  I will stand watch and wake you before dawn."

1 hour earlier

Deandra stood in front of the soldiers, Chandra standing next to her.

"We are going to attack their water supply.  It will be rough.  Fight hard, fight strong, don't give up.  With luck, we will all grow up to be old geezers with an interesting tale for the kids.  Now GO!"

Chandra felt a change come over her.  It was Aurora coming to sit co-conscious alongside her.  Their body changed to reflect the dawn's early light.  Their hair became a little warmer, their skin becoming healthier, eyes swirling golden brown and icy blue.  Power of both Aurora and Chandra flowed.

"Nermana?  Are you ready?"  They nodded, body tense with battle nerves.  Time to fight.

With a roar that could be heard from the heavens, they charged into battle.

The sounds of clanging metal, guns firing, spells being uttered, chaos could only describe the scene.  Everyone fought, bloodlust changing them into beasts.  Survive. Survive. Survive.  That was all they could think.  They couldn't think.  Slashing, blood, gunshots. Arrows flying.  Nermana leading the charge.  Aurora and Chandra thinking as one, as only they could at dawn and dusk.  Powers bonded and strengthened.  Bodies fell left and right, the soldiers rallied behind their goddess of war.  It gave them courage.  It seemed like they were unstoppable.  They were guaranteed to win.  Guaranteed by the gods.  But it was always at that moment that things would fail.

It was a stray arrow this time.  The poor sniveling enemy soldier didn't even realize they had hit someone.  But it was enough.  Deandra saw them fall.  You know what happened next.

Some nebulous amount of time later

Death.  Love.  Gods live eternally.  It is not a gift Nermana thought to themselves.  It just took away their loved ones.  Chandra and Aurora split, same as they always did in this half state.  They talked and grieved.  Day and Night.  Siblings, twins, halves of a whole.  It felt like an instant, and it felt like forever.  Time had no meaning in this dark void.  All the two of them could do was wait.  Wait and mourn.  For they knew that they would return to Earth.  They would return and save it.  Just like they had done since the beginning of time.  But for now, they would wait.  And wait.  And Wait.

Deandra would slip away from them, she was possibly already dust, her soul in the heavens.  Just like all the others they had met and loved.  Chandra made a vow.  To never love again.  Aurora disagreed.  Their lives were short glimpses into another world.  Embrace humanity when they could.  It was a constant battle the two shared.  Every time Chandra would fall, and every time it would hurt.  And still, they waited.

137 years later

Finally, in an instant and an eternity, Aurora blinked her eyes open, blearily in the afternoon sun.  It was time to save the world again.  She couldn't wait.

Everyone meet my newest character creation.  Nermana!  It might have been confusing but think of them like this.  There are Chandra and Aurora.  Together they share a body.  Aurora is the goddess of Day.  And Chandra is the goddess of Night.  Together they are warriors for the God of Time.  At dawn and dusk when it is both night and day the two co-inhabit the same body at the same time as their full and total collective called Nermana.  In the daytime, just Aurora is inhabiting the body and vice versa.  Nermana doesn't really die.  Instead, they live in a half state until the world needs them once more.

This video is worth watching until the end.  Especially if you have never watched the Tangled TV show.  The music is... wow. just wow.  You think you have heard Disney at its best but... wow.  Especially for a kids TV show.
