"Do you realise why you're here?" Dahmin asks.

I nod.

I sit in a hard wooden chair, staring at the silhouette sitting opposite me. I rub the bandage fastened around my wrist. One of many. When I woke up in the med-wing, I was bandaged and put through a quick check-up before being given the all clear, even though Dr Powers says it's a miracle I woke up at all.

The missing students are still under observation after having so much of their energy zapped. Most of them anyway. The ones who've been gone the longest don't seem to remember much of what happened, which is a plus for me, but not really helpful in terms of clearing my name. At least they didn't hear Klein's little spiel about the Dhampirs and me.

Daemon sits beside me. He doesn't even look at me, which isn't surprising since I kind of mauled him a bit and the stitches and bruises show it.

"We've had a serious breach of security here at Haven," Dahmin says, his eyes burning through me. "Although there have been no fatalities, as far as we know, there is still cause to be concerned. One concern is the whereabouts of our wayward art teacher. Do you happen to know where he is?"

I shake my head without taking any time to think. How can I even say what happened when I'm not entirely sure? All I know is Klein is dead.

"He disappeared, I can vouch for that," Daemon says.

"I have received footage, from an anonymous source indicating that he was behind the attacks," Dahmin says, his voice remaining monotonous. "Even though you've managed to clear yourself of these crimes, your position still isn't something to be proud of. The Regulators will remain stationed here until the rest of this mess has been dealt with."

Fang somehow managed to slip away from the Regulators and is still out there on the loose somewhere.

"She had nothing to do with any of it," Daemon says. "Do you really think the Regulators will take your side once I tell them you've been keeping secrets from them?"

Dahmin stares at us, having nothing to say for once. For the first time, he looks worried. A small bead of sweat drips down his forehead.

"If I remember what happened to Mr Klein, I will let you know," I say, feeling braver with Daemon sitting beside me.

"You may leave," he says, not taking his eyes off the stack of papers on his desk.

I slide out of the chair and storm out of the room. Right now, it's obvious nobody likes Dhampirs much. I'll just have to make sure they don't decide I need exterminating as well.

"Scar," Daemon calls.

I turn away from him and continue walking. Whatever he wants to talk to me about can't be good news, so I'd rather hear it later.

Exiting the main building, it's still dark outside. I have no idea how long this whole nightmare went on. Not even sure which day it is. There's no one out at this hour, at least. I don't think I could stand anyone's accusations or questions just now. I'll get enough of that once classes resume.

A flapping sound echoes around me as I walk down the isolated path. I freeze and look around. There's nothing out here. It must have been all in my head. Yeah, that's all it was, just another flashback to that horrible place.

A hand clasps my shoulder, making me jump. "Whoa, it's just me," Daemon says.

"What do you want, Daemon?" I start walking before he has the chance to answer.

"Can't you slow down? I really need to talk to you."

"Why aren't you afraid of me?" I speak in a soft voice as I turn around and face him.
