As they entered Lindsay's apartment, Jay just begun thinking about where he would sleep. He stood in the doorway unsure of where to go. Going into Lindsay's bedroom seemed inappropriate, and she hadn't told him where to go yet. "We'll go on then," Lindsay says from behind him. He could hear the smile in her voice and began blushing ever so slightly. Lindsay laughed "no way Halstead, you're on the couch!" Jay blushed even more. Erin had read him like a book- knowing exactly what he was just thinking about the bedroom. Quickly, he shuffled awkwardly towards the couch, put his bag down and sat on the couch. Erin went into her room quickly, then hurried out and chucked a blanket and a pillow at him. "Make yourself comfortable!" She said, "I'm gonna go shower," Jay sat, looking around Lindsay's apartment. Open plan apartment, modern kitchen with black counter tops, he noted to himself, trying to distract himself and restrain the thoughts at the back of his mind that repeatedly remind him that his extremely beautiful partner is extremely naked in the shower. The shower whose door was extremely close to Jay. He stood up from the leather couch, and began sorting it out carefully, making it bed-like so he'd be able to sleep and being as efficient as possible so that his mind does not return to thinking about Lindsay.
"Coming out!" Erin said, as if to let Halstead know that he now needs to look away. Jay was too stunned to move though, and stood there facing the door as Erin came out in nothing but a towel. Erin strolled casually to her bedroom, laughing hysterically at Jay's gaping expression. Five minutes later she emerged fully clothed and still laughing while Jay blushed. "It's your turn goof!" She exclaimed while laughing. Jay got up still blushing yet smiling and pushed Erin playfully, as if that would stop her mockery, while quickly running into the bathroom before she could crack another joke about the situation.
Erin smiled as Jay closed the door behind him. She went over to the kitchen and began brewing some coffee. She went up to the bathroom door "Halstead, you want some coffee?" She yelled through the door. "Yeah!" Jay yelled back a few seconds later. She returned to the kitchen. This is gonna be really weird. This roommate situation with Jay. Voight already hated the thought of them, everyone could tell their body behaviour changed, ever so slightly, when near each other and Voight loathed the attraction. He is not gonna like this, Erin thought to herself. We're partners, though. He can't seriously expect me not to let him crash at mine when his apartment is unavailable. He'll understand. Erin continued, trying to convince herself that everything that was going on, and all the feelings involved, were all from a police-partner perspective. All innocent.
When Jay finished showering and dressing,he came out from the bathroom. "It's about time!" Erin grinned, "You take longer than me to get ready!" Jay grinned back sheepishly and say beside her on the couch. Together, they cosily watched some TV. It was getting late, and as the night progressed, Lindsay became increasingly tired, her eye lids drooping sleepily until she falls asleep soundly on Jay's shoulder. Jay turned his head towards her, noticing she had fallen asleep, and smiled in the darkness. He turned the TV off, and lifted Erin carefully in his arms, taking her to her bedroom. He put her down slowly on her bed, and tucked her in softly. Jay smiled at the peaceful expression on his partner's face, then slowly and quietly retreated from the room, carefully closing the door. He cleaned up the coffee table, put the dishes in the dishwasher, and lay down on the couch, going to sleep too.
The next morning, Erin woke up. She couldn't remember how she had gotten into bed, or when, all she knew was that her alarm has gone off and she had to get ready. She headed to the bathroom, like she does every morning. "Holy shit!" Lindsay yells. She'd forgotten Jay had moved in temporarily. Jay woke up from her yell, disoriented and sleepy. "What?" He asked, yawning. "Sorry!" Erin mutters, "I forgot you were there, um, you need to get ready we have to head out soon, I'm gonna go to the bathroom, um, you just get dressed and start making some breakfast or coffee or something." Jay nods as Erin goes into the bathroom and closes the door behind her.
Halstead heads over to make some toast quickly for the both of them, when he sees Lindsay emerge from the bathroom ready to go, he heads in, exchanging glances so that Lindsay would know to take out the toast and not to eat it all. When Jay comes out, Erin has two plates with the toasts on them ready and she smiles over at Jay. They eat silently, neither knowing what to say to the other Lindsay could've sworn she could feel the awkwardness and the tension in the air. How the hell are we going to live together when both of us seem to think the same unprofessional thoughts that Voight has specifically told us not to think, she thinks to herself. Jay, on the other hand, eats while thinking about hot his partner is. What am I gonna do when I can't do what it want because Voight said we can't?! Jay thinks to himself. Erin and Jay look up at each other at the exact same time. "Well this has been great, don't you think?" Jay asks sarcastically, grinning widely. Erin laughs, and suddenly it feels like all the awkwardness has gone, like they've broken the ice between them. They're both thinking about one another in inappropriate ways, but at leas to the surface, they are two extremely good friends being room mates and having a laugh. Erin stands up and starts loading the dishes into the dishwasher, bending down. Without meaning too. Jay catches himself looking over at her ass, unfortunately for him, Erin catches him too and raises an eyebrow at him. Jay blushes so much it makes Erin go into a laughing fit, running around the counter to play-slap him. "Come on, Halstead we have to get goin'," she says with a smirk while simultaneously going out the door, Jay rushes after her, and they get going. They arrive at the precinct five minutes late, running up the stairs to intelligence while having one of their usual "why do you get to drive Erin" brawls only to wipe the smiles off their face when they see the rest of the unit on edge and serious. Voight greets them with a somber impression on his face. Erin and Jay look around the unit, everyone looks so serious.
"Nice of you to join us," Voight says, without even attempting to sound sarcastic. Something about this case has got everyone on edge, Halstead and Lindsay realise unanimously. "We've caught ourselves a hard one."
