"We're not seriously doing this, are we?"

Jimin gaped at the contents of the boxes, then up at Seulgi's giant grin.

"It's part of the program," Seulgi said. "At the end of the school year, all the seniors whose mates contact them have the opportunity to hide this in their mate's desk or bag or wherever. It's like... like saying that even if you don't want them now, you aren't going to reject them. A promise, of sorts?"

Jimin pulled out one of the small red boxes, slipping it open and biting his lip. Inside was a simple silver band, engraved with the words 'a promise for later'. "Do the alphas know about this?"

"Nope, it's strictly omega business," Seulgi said. "No one even mentions it until this season. Huge secret."

Jimin nodded, closing the box and turning it over in his hands. He checked to make sure Yoongi wasn't listening, then said softly. "Maybe I'll do that."

"Still nervous?" Seulgi asked, pulling a sympathetic smile.

Jimin nodded, still turning the box over. "I just don't know if I'm ready yet," he said, placing it back in the box and sitting back on his heels.

"Take your time," Seulgi said. "It sounds like he'll wait for you."

Jimin nodded, considering all the small red boxes stacked neatly before him. He imagined Seulgi, giving her box to a strange alpha while they weren't looking. Was he really ready for a mate? Were any of them?

No.

He stood slowly, taking the box he held. "Can I keep this?" he asked.

"Of course!" Seulgi said. "Just don't let any alphas see it."

Jimin nodded, swallowing hard, and slipped the box into his pocket. Seulgi patted his shoulder, giving him a quick hug.

"Do what's best," she said softly.

"I will," Jimin said. I hope.
