(Merlin X Reader)
Staying with Gaius and Merlin had its fair share of... Interesting experiences to say the least. Not that it bothered you, if anything you were amused by his experiments, but captivated when he produced something beautiful like the time he magicked up a bouquet of flowers and presented them to you with that cheeky, but handsome grin.
This morning was no different, Gaius had left on business, but had left some breakfast on the table for the both of you. Though instead of waking up and gazing upon a handsome man, you found yourself face to face with a black Labrador. Normally you would have woken up with a start, though due to the sleeping pill you took in the early hours of the morning the effects had not yet worn off, and your bleary eyes closed once more.
The dog next to you awoke and began to lick your face as if to say good morning. You groaned and rolled over. Merlin didn't seem too pleased at your response and began to tug the covers off the bed with his teeth, prompting you to wake up. Noticing the dog in front of you properly, you were confused until the dog fetched one of his neckerchiefs, you began to squeal with adoration, which ended up exciting him further, his blue eyes lighting up, barking as if to agree with you.
The moment was adorable, you couldn't deny it, however that moment was swiftly broken when Prince Arthur burst in asking for Merlin, oblivious to the Labrador watching his every move. "Don't tell me he's in the tavern again... Well if you see him, can you tell him I have a list of chores waiting for him?" You giggled and nodded your head as Arthur left the room. Looking over to your left, Merlin had laid down, head between his paws, letting out what could be interpreted as a grunt.
How you were going to explain the situation you didn't know, all you did know was that there was an 80 pound Labrador staring at You intently from across the room. With Gaius gone and Arthur being kept waiting the situation was far from ideal, though you decided to search for any kind of reversal spell.
After about 20 minutes of no such luck, Gaius wandered inside, immediately catching sight of the dog. Both males eyed you quizzically.
"Don't look at me, I don't know why Merlin's a dog..."
"This is troubling added Gaius, what with not knowing what kind of magic he used, I'm afraid I don't know how to reverse the spell."
Merlin suddenly piped up, dragging a book to you and placing it down at your feet, you grinned and stroked him whilst Merlin jumped upon the couch and tried to nuzzle into you, earning a chuckle from Gaius.
"He seems rather fond of you, Y/N!"
"I love him too, but would prefer to tell him in his human form"
With that you decided to go to dress up in Merlin's clothes and resume his duties to Arthur, only to feel a tug on the jacket, courtesy of Merlin, who seemed upset that you had to take his place.
You went anyway and began to reach Arthur's chambers when you heard 4 sets of paws running behind you, though due to the floor being slippery, Merlin's paws slipped and he ended up sliding into you, your body on top of his as you both collided into Arthur, sending his parchments flying up into the air.
It was going to be a long day. True to form it was, with Arthur making you take on extra work as punishment for ruining his parchment. During this process however, you found Arthur eying you up and attempting to flirt with you, which in the end, resulted in Merlin peeing on you as if claiming his territory. You had to clean that up as well.
Returning to Gaius' place, you flopped down on yours and Merlin's shared bed exhausted with the way the day panned out with Merlin jumping upon the bed and lying next to you.
Drowsily you said "I love you Merlin, no matter what anybody else thinks"
No sooner had the words left your lips than bright sparkles started to form around Merlin. Lifting up, Merlin began to change back into a human as the magic deposited him on the bed, bouncing it slightly and waking you up in the process.
Once you were reunited with him once more, Kisses ensued.
Dog or human, Merlin was a keeper.
