━━━━"Do you guys wanna hang out later?"
"I can't"
"Why not?" Carter asks Kendra as their group sits at their usual table at lunch.
Ever since Kendra met Carter last year, Kendra has gotten a lot closer to the rest of Carter's friends. There were six of them in total, including Carter and Kendra. First there was Avery DeGrano, the out going, loud mouthed, and quirky girl that was always smiling. It was easy for her and Kendra to get along and quickly become best friends. Then there was Bryant McFarlane, captain of the basketball team, school's trouble maker, and one of Carter's closest friends. Next up is Jenika Dawson, wanna be beauty guru, quite but loud when you get to know her, and one of the smartest people Kendra has ever met. And the last one in the group is Abe Dawson, NBA bound college player, Carter's other bestfriend, and Jenika's older brother by a year. Being a year older, Abe had his other friends he hung out with, but whenever he had the chance he would hang out with Kendra and the rest of the gang. But since he's a freshman in college, he hasn't been around too much.
"Becausa-" Before Kendra could reply to Carter's question, Avery cut her off and answered for Kendra.
"Because she's got a date." Avery says with a wink as she takes a bite from her fry. Cater visibly tenses up at the sound of Kendra dating, but thankfully Bryant was the only one to notice.
"Shut up, it's not a date." Kendra says as her cheeks become a tint of red.
"It totally is, he asked her to go to the movies." Jenika teases and shimmies her shoulders.
"And who is this person?" Carter asks as he crosses his arms over his chest and turns to his left to face Kendra.
"It's no one-"
"It's Kaleb Trenton!" Avery and Jenika squeal out with excitement.
"Guys!" Kendra complains as her other best friends giggle.
Carter and Bryant both send each other knowing glances and nod their heads at each other knowing what to do.
Kaleb Trenton is known to be a little careless with his giant swarm of girls that are constantly around him. One moment he'd be with a tan blonde in the janitors closet and the next moment he's making out with her best friend. He's bad news.
"Yeah, you're not going out with him." Bryant says from across the table.
"What, why?" Kendra asks completely confused.
"Because I'm taking you to the movies instead." Carter says as he swings his arm over Kendra's shoulders.
"Cart-"
"No buts Ken, you're texting that boy, what's his name, Kevin?"
"Kaleb"
"And you're telling him you've gotta cancel because your best friend wants to hang out." Kendra rolls her eyes at Carters antics. This isn't the first time Carter and Bryant scheme against Kendra's dates. Every time Kendra even mentions a boys name, the two boys need to know every single detail of their conversation, their date, and more.
"You guys always do this to me, can't I get one nice date with once nice guy? Guy's please back me up on this." Kendra questions out to Avery and Jenika who only laugh.
"Sorry babe, but this is your decision to make." Avery answers.
"You guys are horrible." Kendra grumbles out as she crosses her arms over her chest and begins to pout.
"Awe come on Kenny, you are going on a great date with a great guy, that's me!" Carter says and Kendra angrily shrugs his arm off her as the lunch bell rings.
The group quickly gets up from their seats and bid their goodbyes as they all go their own ways to their classes.
As Kendra makes her way towards her class, Carter is right beside her. Leaning down so that he's level with Kendra's ear, Carter whispers "Be ready by 6 beautiful."
Carter leaves a soft kiss against Kendra's jaw before walking off in a different direction to his class. Kendra's cheeks are the brightest shade of red and her chest rises and falls rapidly at Carter's simple action.
Carter has always had that effect on Kendra. That effect where anything he does, either he smiles her way, wraps his arms around her, or just stands near her, Kendra is left breathless. No matter the situation, good or bad, Carter is able to make her feel butterflies all over again.
And little does Kendra know, Carter gets the same effect with her.
