"Are we sure he's safe?", Liz asks, taking a sip of tea. "I mean, he's strong, we know that- It's scary!"
After serving everyone dinner, I led Saint to Soul's bedroom. Since he's not using it, I granted Saint the room. He was sleeping soundly about two minutes after laying down. He sure likes to sleep...
I visited Soul in the nurses office one last time. He was awake, unlike last time. I still remember how shocked he was that I was up this late on a school night, and how upset he was that Saint was at the apartment. He kept warning me that he was just trouble, but he always gets like that. He's too rowdy and careless to even give Saint a chance. I mean, Crona was completely absorbed in black blood and insanity- and now he's one of our closest friends! Saint is kind- He's even worried about me. He's not bad.
Still, I can't help but feel a bit uneasy around him- as if he can see right through me.
"We'll find out soon", Kid leans back on the couch, crossing his legs. "He hasn't done much to convince us he's dangerous, though."
"He's a stranger", Crona shivers, looking away. "I don't really know how to deal with strangers.."
"You give them a chance", I smile, setting a hand on his shoulder. He returns the gesture, and it placates his nerves. I look back to Kid, and sigh. "One week. A God- I didn't think much about it, but it'll still be tricky."
"Asura was stronger", He points out. "I see your point, though. You killed Asura through mental stability-"
"Hey", I growl, glaring at him. He smiles a bit, and shrugs.
"Killing a God isn't going to be easy. Have you told Soul and the others?"
I shake my head. I'd rather tell everyone the plan when they're rested and healthy. Stressing them out while they're in recovery would only lead to trouble. BlackStar would leave immediately, probably abandoning Tsubaki in the process. She'd be so worried.
"We should tell Dr. Stein!", Patty raises her hand, her eyes as bright as always. "He's freaky", She giggles, hiding her face in her hands.
Kid shakes his head rapidly. "He'd alert my father"
"Is there another reason why you don't want Lord Death joining us?", I tilt my head, trying to read his expression.
He pauses for a moment, before standing, strolling towards the door. "I just want him to recover", he smiles. "Liz, Patty, let's go."
"Oki Doke!", Patty cheers, skipping out the door with him.
Liz helps Crona up, ushering him out the door, and stops in the door frame. Looking back at me with sympathetic and scared eyes, I feel a bit patronized.
"You can stay with us for the night.. I don't like the idea of you alone with him", She whispers the last part, her face ashen grey.
I shake my head, and wave my hand defensively. "I'll be fine, I promise."
Despite not looking convinced, she reluctantly exits, locking the door behind her. I sigh, and lean back on the cushions, closing my eyes slowly. It's been a while since I've taken a job. After Asura, all of us were granted as much time as we needed off. Still, I was back to school in no time, as were the others.
It's just been a while since I've collected souls- and now I'm taking on a God? It's a big step... And I have to agree with Kid. Asura was a pain- he wasn't easy.. but I defeated him with bravery. I can do the same as I did then.
