He stared.
His voice echoed against the emptiness. He cried out, cried out in desperation.
"Don't"
His voice couldn't reach her, instead, she nudged herself to take the final plunge. Itching closer to the bottom. She scooted off the ledge and he watched.
"Don't"
His eyes fell along with her.
At the last of her moments, her eyes opened and finally, she saw him. She saw him so clearly that his body felt transparent. As if her eyes could liquify his whole being.
His body moved before he could.
His arms reached out and killed her.
Her life wrapped tightly in his arms, pulling her in from the cold hard blowing winds.
She stared. Her sight becoming unsteady and foggy. Finally, her eyes closed, and her body went limp. Her breathing slowed and her body relaxed.
Holding her close, his train of thought ruined.
"She came here for relief and I took it from her. I didn't save her, I held her back."
His mind pondered on, wondering if what he'd done was right.
"Everyone has their own story, and she had the right to choose if she'd want to continue her own. I stole that from her"
Again, her eyes opened.
