Chapter 1

JULIA

(DING DONG)

My name is Julia. 16 years old and a varsity (volleyball) player at my school. Love life?  I’m kind of a boyish type and that’s why no guy ever dared to court me, or so I thought…

(DING DONG)

And who the hell is this person who suddenly got the nerve to interrupt my introduction?

(DING DONG)

“Wait!” I opened the door then closed it again. Why you ask? You’ll soon find out in 3, 2, 1

(KRING KRING) <<< Cellphone

See? “What do you want?”

“I just wanted to ask if you’re busy today –

“Well I’m busy so no thank you.”

I was just about to hung up when he suddenly talked out of nowhere.

“Julia, is there a problem? You’ve been acting so weird lately. It’s not you. Is it because of the ring?  Well I’m sorry if it’s cheap. I haven’t got my allowance yet so –

“No it’s not it. It’s just that I’ve been thinking of so many things lately.”

“What is it? You know you can always tell me everything. I’m ready to listen. Maybe I can help.”

No Rodrick, you can’t help. Because the things that I’ve been thinking about lately are all connected to you.

“Maybe some other time. But now, all I need is some alone time. I hope you can understand.”

“Of course. I’ll always understand. But remember I’m always here okay? I love you.”

And this is why it’s so hard for me to tell him the truth. He loves me, while me? I don’t even know if I like him or is it just because that I pitied him that day? I don’t know! Why am I thinking about all these stuff?! It’s just a stupid promise ring. It’s not like we’re getting married or something. But still, my conscience is killing me.

RODRICK

(TOOT TOOT)

She hung up without saying a word. That’s okay, cause I’ll understand her no matter what. I hope she’ll let me help her. I hate being helpless when it comes to people I love. No worries, tomorrow I’ll see her again and I’ll try to help out.

“Rodrick dinner’s ready!” My mom’s calling me already. Better go now for she hates letting the food get cold.

After eating, I helped my mom clean the dishes then went straight to my room to study. I’m  a straight A student and my mom is happy and proud because of that. I don’t wanna disappoint her cause she’s been in a lot just by raising me since my dad left her for another woman. She’s a strong woman. She didn’t even shed a tear when dad left. But I know that she was holding back her tears for me. She doesn’t want me to see her being so frail for she knows that I need her strength that time. One of the greatest advices she said to me was, In love, there is no such thing as equilibrium. There’s always that person who’ll love more than the other. So, don’t be that person. Don’t give too much for you’ll lose a lot. I understand where she’s coming from for she love dad so much, too much. In the end, she was the loser. She didn’t want me to be like her. And I hope I won’t be.

While I was studying, I can’t help but notice a small picture frame of 2 people that looked happy together. It’s me and Julia. We’ve been together for 10 months now. I was her first relationship and I’m proud of that. I don’t even know why no guy ever asked her out. She’s a full package. She’s smart, beautiful, an athlete and she’s not like all the other girls around. She’s nothing like a damsel in distress. She can protect herself well on her own. She’s independent and that’s why I love her.

(Alarm rings with the tune of Our Song)

“5 more minutes!” Gosh! Can’t it let me sleep for just 5 MINUTES!!! In frustration, I slammed my phone…. MY PHONE! Oh my gosh! My phone!

I hurriedly picked my phone up and checked if damage has been done. So far, there’s no scratch. Thank God! Why is the alarm so early anyway? I looked at my phone and saw that it’s Monday. Oh great!

I went to the kitchen and saw breakfast already on the table. My mom must’ve left early today. I sat down and when I was about to get food from the other plate, I saw the ring again, the goddamn ring. And it’s Monday today which means I’ll see him again. Oh gosh!
