"It doesn't matter what others think you are; what really matters is: Do you know who you really are?! Don't be what they want you to be; be yourself and live free." Mom always told me this whenever I told her about school bullying.I love Mom and Dad. I am their only child, and they love me so much that whatever I want, I get. Also, no matter how much support and love I need, I always find it when I come back home from school. My life was indescribably beautiful, and I loved it so much, but of course, nothing lasts forever.
It all began on that black day, the last day at my school. I was very happy because we were going on vacation to Hawaii with Dad. I said goodbye to my friends and walked home with one of them. As we were walking home, we talked about how quickly this year had passed. She asked me about my summer plans, so I answered excitedly: "Dad had already rented us a house near the beach in Hawaii for the whole summer! Imagine that, Hawaii! I am so excited about it!" She responded, "Oh, great! I am so happy for you!" I reached my house and invited her to come in, but she said she couldn't because she had some important stuff to do.
I got to my house with happiness and excitement!
I shouted, "Mom, I'm home! I can't wait to pack my bag!" But suddenly, I saw Dad's boss in our house, so I got a little bit shy, said hey to him, and went upstairs. But I can't lie, I had a bad feeling about him being in our house and Dad not answering his phone. My curiosity made me spy on him and Mom from the stairs. As I was watching, Dad's boss stood up, put his hand on Mom's shoulder, and said something with a sad face, and suddenly my mom fell on the ground, crying and screaming. At that moment, I rushed down the stairs, trying to understand what was happening. What made her cry like that? I took her to her room, put her in her bed, and let her drink a glass of water. Then I asked slowly, though my heart was racing, and my blood pressure was flying. I said in a low voice, "Mom, what did he tell you?" She responded, "Nothing, don't mind! He's lying; I know he is!" With her words, my heart accelerated even more! I asked again, but with some anger, "Tell me, what did he say?!" Mom, with watering eyes and a broken heart, said, "I'm so sorry, Jas! Your dad is in a better place now!" I was shocked; my tears began to flow like waterfalls! I said to her in anger and pain, "No! No, I don't believe you! You're lying!" I ran to my room and shut the door. Unfortunately, it was real! We had to make funeral arrangements for Dad the next day, so Mom, with a broken heart, announced his death and the details of the funeral, while I just cried and cried until the next day! I became an orphan!
The next day, everything was arranged, and we held Dad's funeral.
At the funeral, there were too many people, some of whom I had never seen in my life! As usual, people pretended to love someone because he died! I was so angry and broken, feeling that the pain would never go away! And the worst part was reading a stupid goodbye message to Dad in front of weird acting sad people; while I read it, I couldn't keep tears in my eyes; I just continued reading, ignoring them!
Not long after, I was sitting with my Mom as she counted taxes and bills, and they were huge. She told me with a sweet smile that everything was going to be alright. She started talking: "Jas, darling, I know we love this place so much, but we can no longer afford to live here, and we can't pay for your school next year, so we will move to another town, maybe to start anew." I looked at her with eyes full of anger and shouted, "New Town! New school! New life! I hate you!" Then, I ran to my room and shut the door behind me! I was a true monster to Mom. I cried and cried, knowing that nothing would change!
After a while, my Mom came to my room, so I opened the door, knowing that I was wrong. My Mom entered and held my hand gently. She said to me that everything would be okay, and I apologized to her, and we both began crying.
The next day, Mom began searching for a new house in Wisconsin. In the meantime, I was saying goodbye to my friends who had supported me a lot here in California. I didn't know what was going to happen, but one thing was for sure: my life would never be the same!
