THE VANISHING OF WILL BYERS: PART TWO!

It was the end of the day and June was stuck leaning against her cherry red ford sedan, begrudgingly picking at her nail beds. Dustin was late, of course, and despite many empty threats, she couldn't bring herself to leave the boy.

She had taken to leaning against the car after about twenty minutes, not wanting to waste her gas by running the air conditioning.

June threw her head back in frustration, running her hands over her face. "God dammit, Dustin."

"If it isn't June Henderson in the flesh," a voice called out, one that made her roll her eyes even harder if that were possible.

June looked up to find Steve Harrington looking over at her with a smug smirk, arms crossed over his chest. Steve stood a good ten or eleven inches over her, but that didn't stop June from sizing the boy up.

He was clad in a long sleeved stripe polo and khakis that made him look like somebody's father. And not in the dirty way.

"Harrington," June greeted curtly, a smirk of her own curling over her pink painted lips, "—surprised to see you without your little pets."

June didn't particularly enjoy the company Tommy H. and Carol. They were complete tools with no other purpose then to harass the innocent people of Hawkins High, though June admit they could be fun sometimes. Specifically when she had a couple of drinks in her system. Steve was only slightly more bearable.

"Probably making out under the bleachers," Steve shrugged, "What about your girls? I'm surprised they left you to the big bad Hawkins High parking lot all by your little lonesome."

It was true that Jessie was protective over June and Amber, seeing herself as the mom of the trio. It made sense in all honesty. She was the perfect balance between the three of them— and tough as shit, though to some she didn't look it.

"It took some convincing," June confirmed, "—but they didn't deserve to suffer while I wait for my idiot brother."

"Well lucky for you I make great company," Steve grinned, walking over to lean against June's car beside her.

Steve couldn't help but to laugh at how far June had to look up to see his face.

"And what makes you so sure about that?"

"Well I've been told many times that I am a pleasure to be around," Steve bobbed his head, looking at the girl, "—and you haven't sent me away yet so I can't be too bad."

"Fair enough," June replied, "—then again I guess I'm kinda desperate."

"Then I'm your guy," Steve grinning, clapping his hands together loudly.

June couldn't help but to laugh, shaking her head as she shifted her gaze to the doors of the middle school. She was going to kill Dustin, she had decided.

June looked over at Steve through the corner of her eye, the boy already looking at her. Her brows furrowed slightly in confusion, "Wait— why are you here? Shouldn't you be sucking face with little-miss-perfect?" June challenged.

Steve looked at June, his expression mirroring her own, "You mean Nancy?"

June only nodded, the smug smirk returning.

Steve's cheeks flushed, though he tried his best to play it off, "Why, jealous?"

"More like concerned," June shrugged, turning her attention to her cherry red nails— admittedly painted to match her car, "—didn't know King Steve had a thing for the Amish."

"Hey," Steve exclaimed, throwing his hands up, "—she's not as innocent as she looks."

June looked at the boy with a grimace, "That's way more information than I needed." She replied, perking up when she saw her brother and his friends shoot out from the doors of the middle school.

She muttered a quiet thank god under her breath, running a hand over her shirt in an attempt to smooth out any wrinkles.

"Well," June cleared her throat, turning to face Steve, "—that's my brother so we should probably get going." June pointed towards the car.

Quickly she moved past Steve, jumping into the driver's seat and turning the key in the ignition. June returned the wave that Steve had sent her with one of her own.

When her brother opened the passenger door the glare was already set on her face. "What the hell is your problem?" She yelled, gripping the steering wheel tight enough that her knuckles turned stark white. "I told you to be on time. That doesn't mean when ever the hell you decide to come out— it means on time."

"Are you done bitching?" Dustin snapped with a glare of his own. "It's not like you have anything better to do so chill out."

"I didn't have to drop you off and I sure as hell didn't have to wait."

Dustin scoffed, tearing the jacket off his arms and throwing it in the back seat, "Just because Steve Harrington's sucking face with Nancy now doesn't mean you have to take it out on me. Not my fault and not my problem."

June's cheeks flushed a red that rivaled the color of her car. "I don't know what you're talking about, asswipe. Put on your seatbelt so I can go— I don't have money to replace the glass if you fly out the windshield."

Dustin muttered a quiet whatever as he clicked his seatbelt on, crossing his arms over his chest with a pout.

June peeled out of the parking lot in a way that would have made her mother frown, desperate to escape the tense atmosphere of the car.

"They think Will's missing," Dustin finally spoke after a few minutes, his eyes not moving from the road in front of them, "—the last time anyone saw him was when we were playing D&D last night at Mike's."

"What?!" June questioned, her car swerving as she whipped her head around to face her brother. "Sorry, sorry. What do you mean Will's missing?"

Dustin looked down at his hands with a frown, "That stupid asshole Hopper came to the school and questioned us like we had something to do with it. I don't know what to do, June," he admitted, tears clouding his visions, "I'm scared."

"Hey," June replied in a soft voice, placing a hand over her brother's, "—don't worry until you're sure there's something to worry about, okay? I'm sure Will's fine."

June hid a frown as she spoke, her stomach churning at the thought of Will Byers on his own somewhere, scared out of his mind.

She wasn't even sure she believed herself.
