I laughed hysterically as I looked at Charles upon return from behind the bush. "Honey? Your friend is being a lot more social than usual!" He looked down and smiled. Laughing, he readjusted and did his fly up again. "Sorry, but if rather that you see "my friend" than mr dead guy over there! Besides I don't think that he would appreciate it if I pissed all over him." He laughed and I could tell that he was in less pain. "What did you find?" He asked as he looked over my shoulder. "A map, do you want to find where it leads?" I turned my head so I could look in his eyes. "Are you ready for and adventure?" I gave him a playful shove, remembering at the last second the condition he was in. "Ooooh," I apologized multiple times for my mistake. "Um, sure. I think an adventure with a happy ending would definitely fix me up!" He returned the playful shove. We decided that we should pack up and head to the X!
We walked/limped in the direction that the map had told us. But after walking past the same distorted tree, three times, I decided that it was time for a break. I opened the backpack and dug out some crackers, and just add water-mashed potatoes. I started a fire so that we could heat our potatoes and our leftover java from that morning. once I had everything out of the backpack, I set it up as a chair so that Charles could at least have a semi comfortable rest. we couldn't stay for very long, because it gets dark fast down here because of all the fog. We/ mainly I packed up. We journeyed on, hoping that, as it seemed before, this wasn't a giant goose chase.
Charles stopped for his tenth bathroom break. I was surprised when he ran out from behind a tree with his pants around his ankles. "What now." I asked, giggling under my breath. "whenever I need to do my business a dead guy pops up. its not fair!" I tucked my head around the tree. sure enough there was a skeleton leaning against the tree, he too had something in his hands. this time it was a bottle.
I know that I'm making Charles look like a man child, but he's not. Its just coincidence. He breaks a few ribs, he becomes more vulnerable. Almost pees and shits on skeletons, makes him more vulnerable. Adventuring with his beautiful wife, more vulnerable. See its not him, it's me!
As Charles calmed himself down, I separated the skeleton and the bottle, and slid out a second smaller scroll. when I unrolled the scroll I noticed that the other one was torn at the edges not cut. I placed the two pieces of parchment together on the ground. at this time Charles came over to see what was going on. The map was much bigger than we thought it was. It had at least 5 parts and we had 2. I mentioned forgetting the map altogether, because it looked like a morbid prank. All of these dead bodies that just happen to have the next clue that we need. It was Charles that reminded me that we didn't just promise each other to go into the abyss. We promised each other to concur the mysteries and horrors, or something like that, TOGETHER! And so, that is how we ended up on an island in the middle of a lake, at the bottom of an abyss that no one has ever left.
