''i don't understand why you're still so focused on math i mean this looks like some other language?'' a classmate of mine, park sooyoung, said. clearly frustrated.
''it's not that hard, stop whining. maybe you could've just listened to the teachers' explanation.'' i whispered, since everyone else was working too. ''the wall was much more interesting than that.''
i only shrugged and continued working until i heard her taking something out from her bag. a calculator. ''aw...my calculator doesn't work. do you have yours with you by any chance?''
i shook my head. ''no, it's in my locker. but why do you need a calculator? there's no calculator needed.''
''i need to see if my calculation in my head is correct so to save my time and energy i'll just use my calculator.'' she explained while trying to figure out why it wasn't working. i sighed. ''alright i'll get back to work.''
a few minutes later i saw sooyoung banging her calculator on the table. ''stupid. machine. work!'' it caught everyone's attention including the teacher. ''hey stop that.''
''but my calculator doesn't work.'' she complained.
''how would you feel if i banged you on the table huh?''
and with that everyone was silent, until someone from the back chuckled making everyone laugh out loud. ''okay okay don't be so childish now! go back to work.'' the teacher said with a red face.
shortly, the lesson was over. ''hey, jae eun. wait.'' sooyoung said. ''hm?''
''if i buy 30 watermelons and i return 13 how many do i have left? red aliens, because i don't wash my face.''
i frowned at what she said. ''what?''
''exactly that! that is how every math question is for me.'' she said. ''i don't understand.''
''nevermind.'' she sighed. ''you won't understand since you're good at math. scratch that, you're good at everything.''
''let's just go and eat lunch!''
''oh that's right, we have biology after lunch.'' she looked like she was about to throw up. ''disgusting.''
i only rolled my eyes and dragged her to the canteen. after we entered the canteen it was already full with other students. ''sooyoung!'' someone yelled.
from afar i saw a group of girls sitting around the table. ''sit here, we saved a seat for you.'' one of the girl said. sooyoung frowned. ''and jae eun?''
''who is that again?'' the girl asked. ''kim lana, i already told you so many times already, she's my classmate. we're pretty close.''
''oh well, there's only one seat left.'' lana spoke.
''ah, it's fine sooyoung. i'll go outside and eat there.''
''are you sure?'' she asked, unsurely. ''i can go with you.'' she suggested. i shook my head. ''oh no please don't, i don't want someone to get jealous again.'' i said, looking at lana. lana only scoffed and turned away from me.
''are you going to sit here or not?''
''yeah, i'll see you during biology.'' she smiled. i nodded. ''i'll see you there.''
-
''mom i'm home!'' i yelled, my mom walked towards me with a plate of food. ''you're very early, i didn't even made everything yet.''
''it's fine mom, i'll go upstairs and make homework first.'' i grabbed my bag and went towards my room.
''the food is ready!'' she yelled after one hour.
''wow, it smells really good.'' i sat down and began to eat, my mom chuckled. ''you eat like you've never ate before.''
''i'm just very hungry today, i mean everyday. i'm hungry everyday.''
''don't talk with your mouth full.'' she scolded. ''sorry.'' i apologised. ''aren't you going to eat mom?''
''just looking at you eating makes me already full.'' she said. i grinned and continued eating.
-THE NEXT DAY-
''jae, do you want to go out tonight?'' sooyoung said. ''oh no, i don't have time. maybe we could go another day?'' i suggested. she nodded. ''alright-''
''ha, is it because of your mom? she probably doesn't want you to work. people like you only can study, study and study. we're all 18, most of the people go out and have a great time. and then we have you, someone who doesn't even know what fun is.'' yoona said, appearing out of nowhere, she's one of lana's friends. ''even if you're good at school, so what? it doesn't lead you to anything if that's the only thing you're good at.''
''yoona, stop it.'' sooyoung defended. ''since when did you began defending that nerd?''
''she's not a nerd. if you keep being like that, we can stop being friends.''
yoona rolled her eyes. ''you don't want to be friends with be because of that...thing?''
''she's not a thing. she's more worth it than you. let's go jae.'' she grabbed my hand and we both walked away.
