Chapter 6: X-24

"Well, we can't thank you enough for this....It was great. But we have a long drive out..." Logan said after we finished dinner. "You need to rest, don't you?" Kathyrn asked us. "Yeah, we'll find a motel." Logan said. "The nearest one is two hours and it's not even that nice." Will said. "We have a perfectly fine room upstairs for your father and your daughter...and you and your wife can sleep in the living room, our couch is a pull-out bed." Kathryn said. "Kathryn, that's very, very nice of you, but we must go." I said but then Charles interrupts me. "(Y/n)...Logan. We can leave early in the morning. Break of dawn, as it were."

Logan and I look over at him before Logan let's out a sigh. "Ok, why don't we wash up, Pop?" He said and he goes over to Charles. Laura starts to stand up but I go over to her and set my hands on her shoulder. "Sit down." I said, softly, as Logan takes Charles to a bathroom. "Sweetie, you want some dessert?" Kathryn asked Laura, who looks at her then looks up at me. "I...don't see no harm in that." I said and she looks over at Kathryn and nods.

*3rd person POV*

"Two days on the road, only one meal. Hardly any sleep. She is 11 and I'm fucking 90." Charles said to Logan as they get into the bathroom and Logan gets some pills out for him. "There is 101 reasons to keep moving." said Logan. "I'm not a box of avocados, Logan." Charles informs. "Well, we stay the night, then what?" Logan asked. "Then we take her to her friends in Eden. And then we buy the Sun Seeker." Charles whispers. "Take the pills." Logan said as he hands him the two pills. Charles takes them puts them in his mouth and turns the sink on. 

As he starts to cup his hand to get some water, a loud groaning noise goes off and then Will's voice shouts. "Ah, Shit!" Then a door slams shut.

*(y/n)'s POV*

"What's going on?" Logan asked as he comes out of the bathroom and Will walks back into the kitchen. I was just about to help out Kathryn with dishes when this loud noise started. "Nate! Fill the tub before we lose pressure." Will said to Nate and his son runs up the stairs while Will turns to Kathryn. "Honey, check the sink." He said. "They shut it off again!" Kathryn said once she goes to the sink.

"They are just not gonna let this thing go." Will mutters as Logan and Charles come back into the kitchen. "Well you might as well handle it now." Kathryn said to her husband. "It can wait till morning, we just had rain last night." Will said. "We have four houseguests and a sink full of dishes." Kathryn said as she runs her hand up and down Will's back.

"Alright. Alright. The pumping station, that supplies us, is a mile and a half. Sometimes it shuts itself off." Will said as he looks up at us. "That asshole." Nate mutters once he comes back in and Laura starts to go for a piece of a pie on the table. "Hey! No." Logan said to her as he walks up to her and stops her.

"My son is happy to go with you." Charles said. "No, no, no, that's fine. The men that do this sometimes they can be..." Will said and he shrugs. "I can go." Nate volunteered. "No, you got your homework." Kathryn said to him. "Okay, I'll go. Just..uh...let me get my dad settled." Logan said. "I'll come and help, too." I said. "You sure?" Will asked and I smiled. "Yeah, I'm alot tougher than I look. Plus, it sounds like you need all the help you can get." I said and Will nods.

Logan goes over to Charles, picks him and starts to carry him upstairs to one of the extra bedrooms, and I follow them.

Few minutes later, Logan sets Charles in the bed and I help tuck him in. "TV? There's TV here." Logan said to him as he holds up a remote. "No, thank you." Charles said and Logan sets the remote down. "Okay...Get some rest." I said after tuck Charles in. "You know....This is what a life looks like. A home, people who love each other. A safe place. You two should take a moment and feel it." Charles said and I look down at the ground.
