Lillian's POV

Jane had been my friend for as long as I could remember. Our families were those types that didn't relate well with each other but somehow, we did. Jane's was of blue blood and I, well I was just of red blood. Totally normal. Not rich not poor, just comfortable.
Of course Jane hadn't been my only friend. I had people you'd call acquaintances and those you could say were my real friends. Teddy, a guy. He was 23. Two years older than I was. Teddy had a great personality. He was one to make fun of every situation. His actual name was Theodore but we chose to call him Teddy due to his lively nature. Teddy was a 6'7, which was way taller than I was. I was a 5'4. Riele was my other friend. She was my exact age, although she was born in December, a while after I was born. Riele was African. Riele had everything her way. She was beautiful, smart and intelligent. Although she couldn't see it, Teddy had an eye for her. Somehow, I was the shortest amongst my group of friends. Teddy being the tallest out of all of us, Riele was 5'6 and so was Jane. Out of us all, Jane was the only blue blood.
Right now, I was on my way to our group hangout. A bar near town close to Jane's. She wasn't allowed to move too far from her house due to their 'importance'. It angered Jane a lot that she couldn't move around freely so instead of having hangouts without her, we brought them to her.
I got to the bar and everyone was sitted there already. We began giving recaps of our lives since the last time we met.
"Ugh" Jane groaned, "I'm so tired of my parents, they want a 'partner' for me and I can swear that they have the wrong taste." Jane complains.
"If that was the only thing I had on my plate, I'd be happy. What's so difficult about producing children and then dumping him after?" Teddy states more than he asks.
"It doesn't work that way Ted don't be foolish" Riele laughs and I catch Teddy blushing from the corner of my eye. Who wouldn't know that he had a crush on her. Only Riele of course.
"Don't you have to marry someone that's of the same status as you?" I genuinely ask Jane.
"Apparently, I can choose whoever I want so long as it's in line with the deadline if not, they'll choose for me. So I have my work cut out for me." Jane shrugs.
"When's this deadline?" Riele asks exactly what's on my mind and- I'm assuming- Teddy's seeing the expectant look on his face.
Jane takes a while to answer, picking the sides of her meat. "Umm...the deadline's next week Friday, when I turn 22."
"You're birthday is the deadline!!??" I scream and shout all at once. I comport myself, turning my head down when all three of them cast me deathly looks. Riele's and Teddy's for not being able to react better towards Jane's predicament and Jane's for literally spilling her secret to the entire bar.
"Moving on, next week Friday's like in ten ACTUAL days!! How on earth are you supposed to find a soul mate before then??" Riele practically hyperventilates as if she has an important physics project to submit this evening and she hasn't started it. Did I forget to mention how dramatic she can get.
"We could just hire a guy to act as your Mr perfect then, like I said before, produce children and unhire him" Teddy shrugs as he takes a spoonful of his food. It's my turn now to give him a dirty glare. He lifts his hands up in defense and continues with his meal.
"Well I'll figure it out somehow"Jane says," let's move on to you guys, enough about my sad little life." She says expectantly and I resist the urge to slap her from across the table.
"There's a dinner party that'll be held...actually I don't know the location" Riele frowns but continues anyway, "it's on Thursday. Maybe if you're lucky you'll find someone." She says referring to Jane, outrightly ignoring her request.
"How'd you come to know about this 'party' Riele?" Teddy asks.
"You know those my cousins I told you came to visit? Yeah they were invited to it." Riele says to Teddy and I realize I don't know the cousins she's talking about.
"Sorry to interrupt but which cousins exactly and why have you only mentioned this to Teddy?" Jane asks and I giggle.
"It doesn't really matter does it? Important thing is she's going to do some digging and find out where it is and we'll go." Teddy pauses to take note of our reactions. "We're all going right?" He commands more than he asks. We agree instantly, mostly because we all need a day off from our various hectic work..probably except Jane.. and to help Jane find a partner.
"I guess it's time to say goodbye. I'm very busy at home now. See you all whenever." Riele stands up to leave.
"I'm leaving with Riele." Teddy states as he hugs Jane and I.
"I guess you're leaving too Lilian. It's so horrible that you can not come over to my house and you definitely can not stay here a little longer." Jane pouts, indirectly asking me to stay longer with her and immediately pity begins to form within me for her and I certainly do not wish my family was as rich as hers.
