Rafael was sure he sensed a signal from Void. It seemed as if someone was sending him a signal. It was unusual for a place like Void to send a signal, it was an entry-restricted area so that made it even more unusual. He had to make sure the signal was from Void.
To scan the signal and find its origin Rafael had to use his Signalist. He made it of course, but it wasn't all him. He and his father made it together. The coding was his father's, a much older version, so Rafael modernized it. He added a few other features like knowing the origin and adding other planes like Frost and Void which his father hadn't added.
"I found it!" Rafael exclaimed and TJ clapped with happiness. Just then Amaya entered the room, her face was flushed and she was panting.
"Did you run all the way here?" TJ asked her as she poured water into a glass.
"Yeah...I wanted to increase my stamina...so I ran all the way from the weapon room," Amaya said between pants.
"Call Asher, we should go back and Amy....stop lying," Rafael said as he shifted his attention back to the Signalist. It looked fine, Rafael kept it between his hands and closed his eyes.
He could feel the codes talking to him, the wires were fine and the codes were like before. There was slight damage on the motherboard because of falling, but nothing that Rafael couldn't fix.
He opened his eyes and went to his table, TJ followed him. He liked this about TJ, she had no idea what coding was, but she always showed her interest in what he did. None of his friends had ever done it before. Not even Amaya, she always said it was gibberish for her, but she didn't call him a freak. There was only one other person who understood him except for TJ and Amaya, and that was Miriam.
Miriam Montoya was a fire manipulator and his computer class partner. She was unaware of everything when she started. She didn't know the difference between a motherboard and a daughterboard. She thought computers had relations too. Rafael had to explain her everything, now, she could finally operate her Simitron without any help. And by operate, he meant to make one for herself.
She was always interested in what he did, asked him questions, stupid questions, but still. She even came up with the idea of modifying the Screenshorter into a moving picture Screenshorter so it captured the original shot with a replay of the activity done 10 seconds as the shot was set to the picture is clicked.
She is smart as she is beautiful. He wanted to sigh loudly, Rafael had a crush on Miriam, no one knew about it. He never told anyone about it, not even Amaya. Rafael shrugged his thoughts about Miriam and focused on the damage.
"What did you find out?" TJ asked him as he dismantled the device.
"Motherboard is slightly damaged, give or take 10-minute work, then we are set to go," Rafael told her as he looked at TJ, she nodded.
"I have no hurry. I don't think I can sleep anyway. We just have to go before Mayor Mason realizes that both Asher and I are missing," TJ said as she sat on the chair next to Rafael.
"You should start calling him Uncle, don't you think?" Amaya suggested making TJ frown. Rafael understood that she still wasn't ready. He didn't say anything though.
"I don't know what to call anybody right now. Betty asked me to call her Aunt today. I have never called someone Aunt before in my life. I am so confused right now, my mother is not my mother and my father is not my father," TJ paused, "My real mother is kidnapped by her ex-fiance who killed my grandmother and my real father. This sounds like a new Vampire Diaries episode to me," TJ said holding her head in her hands.
Rafael couldn't help but laugh. TJ always compared things to TV shows and movies, it was kinda funny. Amaya joined him and soon TJ too started laughing.
