8 - Lost

After Taehyung closes the stable door shut, he could still practically hear Yeontan's braying. He huffs in annoyance and starts to march towards the castle, or practically walk in a fast pace because he's freezing. He might be found dead in hypothermia before being able to save his father.

With trembling legs, he steps on each of the concrete stairs, its short stairway made Taehyung thank the heavens as he puffs out a white smoke.

When he's finally in front of the grand doors, he suddenly felt dithery because of what's waiting for him inside this hugeass door. But he tries to place the fear on the back of his head because the reason why he's here in the first place is to get his father.

He'll come inside the palace that seems abandoned, almost eerie, search for his father who's really afraid of the dark, then he'll hold his hand and tell him that everything will be okay, then escort him towards the entrance. Afterwards, they'll go out of this castle, fetch Yeontan, they'll go back to the village and then they'll live happily ever after.

The end.

Or so he thought.

He breathes deeply, in and out, a few times before finally knocking hard on the surface of one of the double doors. Instead of someone opening it, the door makes a loud creaking sound and opens itself. He stood there, mouth agape, "So, no one actually lives here..."

He opens it widely and he winced because of how loud it is, pushing it and finally entering the palace.

When he's suddenly inside, the eerie darkness engulfed him for a few seconds. Basically, he also forgot to bring a lamp. "Hello?" Suddenly, a flicker of light enters his vision on the far right, his eyes moved towards there and noticed the fireplace, now lit with fire.

"What the..." he looks around and he only noticed the grand staircase in front of him, ascending towards another pit of hollowness, the pitch-black color not giving him a sight.

The coldness is long forgotten when he starts to sweat out of fear. Did the fireplace just lit itself? He swears he could hear Yeontan's whine from afar and his own labored breathing, as if everything around him is suddenly loud and clear, as if the defeaning quietness doesn't offer him tranquility nor peace. But he tries his best to avert his buzzling mind towards his father. His father, who's probably around in some caliginous areas of this palace. He's here for his father, whether if this place is curse or not, he'll do anything to save him.

"Anything", Taehyung mumbled. A burst of bravery suddenly hits him as he starts to slowly march towards it. The back of a couch and a small table greets him, both facing the fireplace. He also took notice of another small table beside the fireplace and the three lit candles that sit atop of a vintage candle holder, its fire flickering.

Without much hesitance, he reaches out for the candle holder only to hear something. He flinches back in surprise and looks down the ground.

He sees a baby chick chirping at him.

Taehyung melts, "Why are you here?" He smiles at the chick, slouching down. He swoons when it stares up at him and tilts its head. Omg it is so cute.

But then he suddenly remebered something, "Wait, why are you here... inside this palace?" He says the words slowly, as if a chick would understand him. It chirps in response, and Taehyung is officially whipped.

Suddenly, he doesn't want to eat chicken anymore and he wants to send a retirement letter in KFC. He reaches down to pet it with his finger, and the baby chick lets him. He coos because of how adorable it is, chirping occasionally and even rubbing its head on his knuckles.

"Sorry if humans can be heartless at times, you guys just taste amazing."

The chick retracts away from his hand, "Well I mean, I was a human." He screams in surprise and falls back on his butt, the chick's high-pitched voice startles him. He stares at the talking chick in horror. "Did you just-"
