You had entered the hybrid adoption center looking for a companion. You didn't want a younger hybrid, which were in high demand, you'd rather have someone to really talk to. You walked into the hybrid room, being greeted by a cluster of the dog hybrids. Amongst wagging tails and twitching noses you sat down, making polite conversation with each hybrid. They all seemed to have somewhat mediocre speaking skills, talking much like a baby would. You noticed a huddle of hybrids in the corner, what looked to be the younger ones curled up and sniffling in the older ones arms. You excused yourself from the dog hybrids, kneeling beside the crying hybrids.

"Hello.. I'm Y/N, are you guys okay?"

A broad-shouldered cat hybrid gave you a sad smile, "Not really. Our friend was just taken to the back room, no hybrid ever comes back from there. They put hybrids down that don't get adopted soon enough, we just.. We didn't know it would be him. He doesn't deserve that, he deserved a good home." His voice became choked up at the end, nuzzling his face back into the head of the puppy in his lap.

Your mouth was wide open, "They euthanize hybrids here? That's barbaric! Where is the back room, do I still have a chance of catching them before they..."

A puppy hybrid that was tightly curled into a ball in a puffy-eyed cat hybrids lap stared at you with wide eyes.

"He's back down that hallway! They just took him a few minutes ago, but they left the room before they did anything!"

You stumbled to your feet, confirming directions to the back room, before rushing to the door. Two men were ahead of you, one with a full syringe in his hands.

"Um, sir? Are you going to," you gulped, "Kill the hybrid in there now?"

The man nodded at you suspiciously.

"Is there any way that I could see him first? I wanted to adopt him."

"It's too late. I'm sorry ma'am, there's much better hybrids in there, trust me."

You chased after the men, ignoring their snide comments and pushing your way into the room behind them. The one with the syringe was hovering over a hybrid who was shaking, strapped down to a table with metal restraints. Choked whines were coming from his throat as his eyes squeezed shut and he leaned as far away as possible from the needle.

"Stop it! Stop it stop it stop it! I'll take him, I'll adopt him, how much? I'll give it to you now, right now! You can't kill him, please!"

"Miss, please. There's tons of better hybrids in the other room, if this one was worth anything he wouldn't be there."

"I don't care what you think he's worth! I'll pay you the full price of a male hybrid his age, right now! What do you have to lose from this, you'd be gaining money!"

They sighed, tugging on the shoulder of the one with the needle.

"She's right. We'll gain much more from doing this. Just let 'im go."

The hybrid on the table tugged at his restraints, practically flying off of the table once they were undone. He nearly knocked you over, cowering into your side, hands grasping at your shirt. You shushed him, hugging him tightly and trying to wipe away the tear stains from his face. He leaned into your every touch, pressing himself against you as much as possible. His tail, grey and bushy was tucked pitifully under his legs, quivering slightly.

You stroked a hand over his head, scratching the ears that were held flat to his scalp.

"Okay my love, let's move out to the front room, we can get your papers signed, and you can say goodbye to your friends and then I'll take you home, okay?" You tried pulling away but he cried harder, shaking his head hysterically and clinging tighter to you.

"It's okay, it's okay. I'm staying with you, you're coming home with me. But we have to move, I can't take you home unless I sign your papers."

You kept him tight to your body as you went back to the front room, leading him to the counter.

The men had followed you out, informing the woman at the desk that the wolf hybrid would be adopted. You could barely move your hand to sign the papers as the hybrid in your arms would cry out each time you moved part of your body away from him. Once everything was signed, you picked up a soft velvety collar, instructing them to engrave his name on it.

It was then that you realized you had no idea what his name even was.

"Honey? Can you tell me your name please?"

"K-Kim N-amjo-on" Tremors still wracked his body as his brain adjusted to safety. He was still scarred from being an inch from death.

"Oh, that's such a nice name. Okay, why don't you go say goodbye to your friends, they were all so upset. I'll go with you if you want."

He nodded, clinging tight to your hand as you reentered the room. The cat hybrid in the corner, the one with the puppy who had urged you to help their friend in his lap, blinked a fresh set of tears away at the sight of his friend very much alive. He set the puppy down on the ground, running over to hug Namjoon. A collar with his name on it read Yoongi, and you admired how cute the two of them looked while hugging, Yoongi being much shorter.

The puppy, having been displaced from Yoongi's lap ran up roo. Jimin was the name on his collar and you gave him a smile as he waited to hug his friend. Instead though, he turned to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his head on your chest.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! He means so much to us all, I was so scared when they took him! Thank you." You ruffled his hair, trying not to cry as you thought of how cruel the shelter was.

Each person hugged you and Namjoon both, small sniffles still coming from your new hybrid. You grabbed his hand, letting him say his goodbyes again before leading him out to the counter.

"Okay, I picked this one out for you. I hope you like it, if you don't please tell me, I can change it." His name was written in gold lettering on the black velvet collar as you slid it around his neck, clasping it in the back. He grabbed your hands before they fell to your sides again, holding them over his cheeks. He stared into your eyes with a dimpled smile for a moment, finally leaning in and hugging you tightly.

"Thank you so much, you have no idea what you've done for me. Really, you literally saved my life. Thank you so much, I can never express how grateful I am-"

"Namjoon, please. Don't worry about it. It's barbaric that they kill hybrids here, I was only too happy to help. I hope you enjoy living with me. Now let's go home."

Home. Namjoon wanted to go there so badly, especially if you were there too.
