As Lumine scurried off down the hallway, Merric sat down.
"You know him?" Aiden asked as the door shut faintly. Merric nodded, looking thoughtful.
"I knew his biological parents," he replied.
"Does he know that?"
"Of course. Why do you think he didn't want to talk to me? He was afraid I would bring it up," Merric takes a sip of his wine. Kody sits a few seats down.
"What are they like?" Kody asks.
"It's not my place to say," Merric responds, pursing his lips. "What did he tell you about them?"
"Virtually nothing," Sherry says, and Aiden shoots her a look. "Not even for his background check. He 'preferred to keep it to himself.'"
"Interesting..." Merric mutters, his eyebrows furrowing.
"...Why's that?" Kody asks hesitantly. Merric thinks for a moment, like he doesnt know how to phrase it - then:
"...Because Lumine is the saddest person I've ever met in my entire life."
