The first thing I hear, stable breathing. My breathing.

My eyes met with darkness, but I could still hear and take in my surroundings. At first, I thought I was in my bedroom until I heard a monitor beeping. I could feel my facial expressions shift, trying to adapt to the coldness of this room. I could hear faint voices in the background. Almost unrecognizable.

I felt another hand intertwined with mine. I had an urge to snatch my hand away because my hand felt numb. They must have been intertwined for a long time because whoever was holding my hand, had sweaty palms.

It smelt like a garden. A school garden almost. It was freaky. My tongue had moved around in my dry mouth. I needed water.

Finally, after testing out 4 out of my 5 senses, I slowly lifted my eyelids and I was met with bright white walls and widened eyeballs. I can now confirm this isn't my bedroom.

Mom and Dad rushed over to my side, heads shaking in happiness with the slight shadow of sadness following along.

"Nessa." My mother cried out as she embraced me tightly. I sat there, mouth slightly opened and eyebrows raised. How would i react to this if i didn't even know what was going on. After a few seconds of her hugging me as tightly as she could, I laid my chin on top of her shoulder and broke out of the hand that had captured mine earlier. Using both arms to hug my mother, I sat there. Completely stunned.

My brows furrowed and I looked up and my eyes met with my dad's big brown teary ones. The pair in which I got my eyes from.

"Dad?" I calmly ask as he too embraced me.

I was completely in a daze. Millions of questions flooded my mind as my parents suffocated me with hugs and kisses. I'm not used to this much affection.

My parents finally let go of me, letting me breathe. I tilted my head at them, words wanting to escape my mouth and interrogate them with thousands of questions. But instead, I sat there in complete silence. Maybe they'll tell me.

Looking over to the other side I'm met with Gavin my little brother who was not so little anymore? The scrawny 13 year old boy was now slightly muscular but still kept his thin shape. He smiled at me, eyes filled with relief as well.

Ayla was standing right in front of me, Charlie's loving girlfriend who has been like my sister for almost a year now. Hands pushed up against the sides of her nose. She had been crying too.

And an unknown attractive teenage boy, sat by my side, probably the one who was holding my hand because I found him kissing the back of it as if there was no tomorrow.

Snatching my hand away, more rudely than I intended to, I looked at everyone staring at me as if I had just died and had come back to life. Well, considering I was wearing a hospital gown, am laying in a hospital bed and woke up in a hospital room, something bad must have happened. Again the dryness of my mouth appeared to be more parent as my breathing now increased. The same question popped into my mind each second I confusingly looked at the audience of sad family members. What the hell was going on?

My eyes moved from them to the edge of my bed. I tried wandering to the back of my mind to remember what had happened the day before since no one was obviously gonna speak up. But it was blank. I couldn't remember what I did yesterday, hell I couldn't even remember what yesterday's date was.

Taking another glance at everyone, I noticed a missing presence. I knew someone was missing from the crying audience I had.

Charlie.

"Alright let's give her some space." A low voice came from behind my dad. The doctor stepped forward, eyes fixated on me, examining me.

"Did I get injured in dance or something?" I finally asked as I looked back to the sad people who shook their heads at me.
