2019 hadn't been the best year for me but it has taught me a lot. One of my close friends named Jade threw a new years eve party and invited her friend named Ruby. Jade and Ruby are a couple of years younger than me although I've known Jade all of my life. I am friends with Ruby's older sister as she is in my year. I got really jealous of Ruby as she was spending more time with Jade than me. I admit now that I was partly to blame for this as I spent alot of my time with my boyfriend but I tried to spend as much time with both of them as I could. This led to Jade moving on and finding a new best friend. Ruby knew I was jealous of her and when new years eve came, I just wanted to hide in a cupboard and disappear. I went to the party early as my nanna lives next door to Jade. When Ruby came over, everything was ok at first. We went into Jade's bedroom and played monopoly. After a while, Jade and Ruby's bullies (Georgia and her friends) messaged them making nasty comments. As much as I wanted to stand up for Jade and Ruby, I didn't want to get involved as they're in a lower year. They were non-stop talking about how Georgia was being a douche while I just sat there, awkwardly playing with the dice. Thats when the unexpected happened. Ruby noticed me looking bored and she said 'we need to involve Emma more'. Finally. So then, we all went downstairs and started dancing and drinking WKD's. As time passed on, I got more and more drunk and I lost my phone. Little did I know, Jade and Ruby had taken it. I searched the full house for an hour trying to find it. At one point, Ruby promised that Jade didn't have it. She said I could trust her as she knows when Jade lies' so when I found out they had both lied to me, I was pretty annoyed but i had to persevere. When it got closer to midnight, Ruby's mum video called her. She showed me and Jade to her mum and she seemed nice. Then, all of a sudden, her mum just said 'is that girl you don't like there'. Instantly, they both looked at me, Jade smirking a little. She denied it although it seemed pretty obvious that they were lying. After a awkward few minutes, they both went into the kitchen where they continued to talk on the phone about 'this girl'. I panicked and left to go upstairs out of the way. I sat on Jade's bed with her dog and stroked her. I could hear them talking downstairs and I heard her say 'it could have been Olive I was talking about'. Olive was one of Jade and Ruby's friends until they grew apart. They never had any arguments so there would have been no reason for Ruby to hate her. When I went back downstairs, they both began laughing and saying that it wasn't about me. Ruby said 'it could have been anyone. It could have been Olive, Georgia (and the rest of her friends)'. Why would Jasmine invite all of her bullies to her new years eve party? I just looked at them both and said 'look Ruby, you can have your opinions on me, on Jade, on your sister and on anyone. I can have my opinions on you, on Jade, on your sister and on anyone. You might not like me but wither way, it doesn't matter if you despise me, we're both here tonight to celebrate 2019 with Jasmine so instead of sitting there and smacking the living hell out of her (which I wanted to do), I held my chin high and agreed that we would try and be civil for Jade's sake. For the remainder of the night, everything was calm. We slept downstairs on the sofa (where we had the party). There was rubbish everywhere and I woke up first. So I could be helpful, I got rid of all of the beer cans and bottles, picked up all of the rubbish and tidied the full room. Whilst I was tidying at one point, Ruby opened her eyes obviously, looked at me, saw I was cleaning up and then she 'went back to sleep'. But at the end of the day, life is too short to argue and fight. Not only is it a waste of time, it can hurt other people around you too. So whatever happens, put family and friends first and your enemies last as they're your smallest priority.
