"you are what you love."
☽scarlett ☽
i woke up in a different room. it was bigger, the walls painted a menacing red, with nothing else in the room but a bed that i was currently on. my eyes then shifted to luke, who was perched on the edge of the mattress, back hunched and facing away from me. i was guessing i was in luke's room. "luke?" i said quietly, shifting around in the sheets and faintly recognizing i had the same clothes on as the day before, except with sleeping shorts. "mm?" he hummed, turning to me and rubbing his crystal eyes tiredly. "is there a reason i'm in your room?" i asked sleepily, still groggy from the wake up. he sighed, moving closer so his head against the wall, his head of blonde resting against the dark hue of the room. "i was feeling uneasy, i guess, so i kind of brought you back here so you could be with me," he mumbled, looking away as he ran a hand through his nappy hair. i smiled down at my hands, realizing that he must care at least to some degree to keep me safe. "thank you," i said quietly, going to touch his shoulder. he flinched away and sighed, and i rolled my eyes. the original asshole luke was back. "you can go back to your room if you want, i don't really care," he said, getting off of the bed and heading to the door. "i have more important things to do anyway." i tried not to let that hurt me too much, i mean, it's not like he actually, truly cares. i nodded, even though he couldn't see me, and quickly padded over to the door and out of the large room. i headed down the gold wallpaper hallways, and turned a corner, efficiently knocking into someones chest, who was definitely taller than me. "scarlett!" michael said, stepping away and looking down at me. i smiled back, and a few thoughts raced in my head as i looked at the boy. "i was just looking for reese," i explained, and his smile faded. "shes in her room," he said, and quickly walked off down the hallway, and out of sight.
-
"reese?" i said, knocking on the wooden door to her room, and the hushed voices i was hearing from multiple people inside stopped. she opened the door a fraction of an inch, and her bright green eyes were visible from the shade drawn darkness of the room where i assumed calum and ashton were also in. "um, now isn't really a good time," she said, her tone of voice weird. "um, what's wrong?" i said, pushing the door slightly. she held it firm. "look, scarlett, can you just come back later?" i was kind of upset. i understood that people needed privacy, but it felt like i was outcasted from the group of people who i assumed to be friends with. suddenly, i heard calum shout, and i pushed the door open, almost falling on my face. in the dark room, i could see the two boys sitting on the floor with something that looked like a birdbath in the middle of them, which had a golden light emanating from it. "what the fuck?!" i said, whirling around as reese shut the door. i moved to turn the lights on, but ashton yelped, "don't! it'll break the spell!" "spell?! what the hell are you even saying?!" i said, my eyes widening as i heard calum whispering things under his breath. "scarlett.." reese said, tryig to touch my arm, but i jerked away. "no! tell me what the fuck is going on!" it was way too early for this shit. reese sighed, her hand tugging at her hair. "look.. there's a secret we-", she glanced at calum and ashton, who were still surrounding the satanic birdbath. "-have been keeping from you." i gritted my teeth. "tell me." she glanced at me worriedly, and i said more insistently, "tell. me." she inhaled, and said,
"we're all dead."
"what? what do you mean?" i said, not really freaking out, but i bet its because it hadnt really sunk in. "i mean," she said slowly, ashton and calum still near the bowl, "that we, ashton, me, and calum, are all dead. we died, and ended up here." i was angry. "and you didn't fucking tell me?! i thought we were friends!" she sighed, and i saw a tear trace its way down the apple of her cheek. "its just.. you were the only live person that we knew.. and.." she trailed off. this was all so fucked up. "how did you die?" i asked quietly, and i heard calum sigh behind me. ''it didn't work," he said, and the birdbath thing dimmed out. "i was in a car crash, with calum," she said, sniffling. calum gave a thumbs up. "i was a shitty driver," he said honestly. "is michael dead?" i said quietly, and she met my gaze. "i don't know. he won't tell us. any of us. only luke and his father would know. oh, right. luke. it felt like i wasn't supposed to tell anyone about what happened, and i remembered what his father had whispered to me in my dreams.
