Rayudu acknowledged both Rohit and Virat in his retirement tweet, evidently, still not having forgotten his scare that night. Virat sent him a heartwarming reply.
In the third ODI vs WI, there was a renewed feeling of excitement in the team.India bowled first, and Bhuvi dismissed Gayle by getting him caught behind in his 2nd over, just like old times. Jaddu took 3 wickets at an economy of around 4...just like old times.
Their target was 230.
Rohit and Shikhar, India's set opening pair for the last 6 years, put up a century stand just like old times. Shikhar reached his 50 first, because he had always been the aggressor, and he was dismissed in the 60s.
Virat came down when India needed 90 more and he and Rohit put up a steady partnership--just like old times.
Rohit reached his century soon and Virat charged down the pitch to hug him extra extra hard to make up for the last match.
"Look how happy they all are for you," said Virat, indicating towards the team balcony where everyone was standing up and cheering.
"I could get used to this special treatment," said Rohit with a wink, and that moment, when he joked about the awful incident, was when Virat knew that Rohit was no longer broken inside.
"It's only for a few days," warned Virat.
Rohit rolled his eyes and went back to the crease.
The two of them took India home safely within 40 overs, just like old times, and when they were walking back, Rohit suddenly turned to Virat.
"Will you promise me you'll never keep secrets from me again?" he said seriously.
Virat met his eyes. "I promise."
"Nice," said Rohit, grinning.
"I've got to tell you a secret, then," said Virat.
Rohit raised an eyebrow.
"You're my favourite person in the whole world," said Virat.
"Yeah, right," snorted Rohit.
"No--really! I want my kid to be exactly like you."
Rohit wondered how Virat always knew the right thing to say, and to cover up how pleased he felt at his best friend's words, he said, "I don't want Sam to be like you at all!"
Virat looked deeply injured.
"Because then I'll never be able to stay angry at her though she's going to be a complete jerk," said Rohit teasingly.
Virat and Rohit both laughed as they reached the dugout and their team hugged them in a celebratory mood, demanding that Rohit take them out to dinner that night.
Just like old times.
A/N: I finished it at last! Do tell me how you felt about the story, because it was my first of so many things, like writing about Mahi bhai, Rohit's brokenness, a real plot and everything.
And about that picture of Rohirat. I mean, how cute is that? I've been staring at this photo for hours and hours...my Rohirat is ❤️❤️❤️❤️
