"Lab partners! I don't are if you like it, but it's who your stuck with for the

semester. Go to your assigned tables!" I looked up and grinned at Chad. He and I

were assigned together. Good thing too. Not just because I'm crushing on him,

but he's smart.

"Hey." Chad smiled at me as I moved to his table.

"Hey." I sighed, smiling, though.

"News on your parents?"

"Well," I closed my eyes. He must have thought I was upset, because he took my

hand. "Actually, dad was..."

"What?" he had a knowing look in his eyes.

"Damn, I know it's not possible, but he ended up perfectly fine!" I ran a shaky

hand back through my hair, shaking my head. "He - he'll be in the hospital for a

while, of course, but he's going to be okay. And we knew mom would be okay." I

hot him a half smile. "Thanks for being there for me."

"Everyone! Dissection! Take your frog. The directing are on your paper, so

follow them CAREFULLY! I will be around to check your work and answer

questions."

"I wonder if it's eyes will bulge if I squeeze it." Chad thought out loud. I

laughed, and he joined in after trying it, the poor dead frog's eyes popping.

"Oh," Chad put down the frog after receiving a menacing glare from the teacher.

"Um, my sisters here today."

"Which one?" I asked.

"The one in the blue dress and black boots. Black hair."

"She's beautiful." I sighed, catching her eye. I smiled, but she just glared at

me, turning back to her work. "Oh-Kay."

"She didn't smile back, did she?"

"No. I have a feeling she doesn't like me at all. Know why?"

"She thinks I'm in love with you." I grinned a bit.

"And what would be wrong with that - if it were true, though?"

"Nothing, but she just doesn't like it because I'm her brother." he smiled,

liking his foot with mine under the table. I smiled, slightly reassured.

Something seemed to wordlessly have changed between us after last night at the

hospital.

When we'd finished dissecting the poor frog, Chad and I walked over to his

sister's table.

"Lilly, this is Eve. Eve, this is my sister, Lilly."

"It's nice to meet you." I smiled. Eve just looked at me and then looked at

Chad. They seemed to be having a silent conversation. Chad put his hand on my

lower back, just a reassuring touch. I sighed.

"I'll see you next class." I gave him a quick smile and walked off. Chad's

sister wast happy. She started talking immediately after I left. I went to the
