5pm, Sunday.

"Ever thought about how the world began?, Science says 'The big bang', religions have its own theories, how did humans learn to know what was safe to eat and what wasn't? Alot of people would probably have died eating random things as their peers watched to see what happened to the 'scapegoat' before they also took a bite".

"Dude, I just asked if you were hungry, will you eat or not?"

Benson's voiced brought me back from what seemed like a trance, apparently I was rambling about a random subject about the 'early man'.

"Yes, I am very interested in food right now. What did you have in mind"

"We could cook Indomie"

"You never tire for Indomie?" I asked as I furrowed my brows at him in skepticism.

"What else is there to eat?" He asked.

"I don't even know, at this point I want literally ANYTHING else but that"

"Well, we don't have money, so unless you want to beg our neighbors, you don't have a choice"

My astronomical urge to spend every dime in my wallet at an alarming rate had put me in a situation where i had to make compromises on daily meal plans, I had gotten a pay check about 2 weeks ago and I was already running on flats.

"Do you think I could make it as a Prostitute?" I asked Benson.

"Absolutely, then we would be eating whatever we wanted right now" He replied.

Benson had the knack of making even the most terrible ideas sound plausible that you'd begin to consider them, In the 3 years that we'd been roommates he was basically my confidant and closest friends, He was a student of Accounting and I always teased him about it, he was a studying accountant and we were broke half the month till we got our scheduled allowance from our parents.

He was raised in a religious home but had somehow in the 4 years of being in University become an apt Atheist.

"Na your type dey shout "Blood of Jesus" pass when bad thing dey happen" I once teased.

It was becoming darker and the weather a bit cooler outside, our choices forhuh dinner was to eat noodles again or find a solution outside of the confinement of the four walls of this room.
Outside the room it is, I thought to myself as I got up and threw on a Tee and headed towards the door.

"Where you dey go?" Benson asked.

"Going to look for food my guy"

I had no exact plan, but I was determined not to come back without food.

I wonder if Maya is home, I thought to myself. Maya Okoye, I always teased her for having the most Haitian name in the entire West Africa, I loved her name, but I wasn't about to tell her that and have her get bigheaded.

Maya was my next door neighbor and my closest female friend, she was dark skinned and had a skin that radiated in sunlight, you would believe she was in Secondary school because she looked young for her age and always had something to say, her quick witted responses made it hard for us to have a proper conversation as we argued half the time we spoke, but it was all friendly banter.

If anyone could help our current situation, it definitely was Maya.

"Hey, Maya?" I called as I reached her window

"You in?"

"Yes, What's up?" I heard her respond.

I had never been happier to hear her voice, our Saviour, our helper, our Messiah.
