Fucked.
Kol was fucked.
He was very, very fucked.
The dog kept getting closer, until it finally got close enough for Kol to know something was off. Unlike the time they met in the forest, the dog wasn't giving off any murderous vibes. It just growled and barked. In place of red eyes, this one's were green.
This allowed Kol to think more clearly, so he went about inspecting the dog. It wasn't any pure breed, and its body seemed solid enough for it to easily pass for a regular dog. The animal circled around him, then began to advance, pressing Kol back.
Toward the town, he realized. It wants me to go back.
But why?
It had to know Kol's abilities were a threat to its stay on Earth, and yet it sensed no hostile intent from the man.
A powerful one, indeed.
The dog snarled, pouncing forward, pushing Kol back some more. Having had enough, Kol closed his eyes and focused.
I know you're scared. It's okay. I'm here to help.
The dog barked once.
Do you want me to help?
It barked again.
I cannot help you if I don't know the problem. What do you want me to do? Where do you want me to go? Take me there.
Kol then heard the sound of a car engine, which drove the dog mad. The beast started growling so loudly, it almost sounded like roaring.
Why the sudden change?
"Hey, Kol!" Eve called out from the other side of the tall grass. "Kol, where are you?"
He made the mistake of turning his head, then screamed as the dog bit into his leg. Kol fell down, then started punching the animal as hard as he could.
Don't do it physically, he thought. Focus.
He wasn't nearly as good as spiritual physicality as Luke, but being a medium did help. His fists glowed only a little bit, and it was enough to hurt the dog. The animal let him go, and then Kol poured all his thoughts into it.
Back away. Don't attack.
The dog took a single step back, still growling.
Sit down.
It obeyed.
Kol looked at his injured leg. It wasn't as bad as he had thought it would be, but there was some blood on it. He wouldn't be running for a few weeks.
Calm down, he ordered the dog, and the ghost obeyed, ceasing all noise making.
"There you are," Eve said as she and Olivia came out of the grass. "Oh shit. Is that-"
"I have it," Kol interjected. "But I can't hold it for long."
"Why are you holding unto it at all!? That thing's almost physical. Make it leave, now!"
Kol wouldn't. They needed the creature. If he could just make it take him -
Without warning, a single bolt of lightning came out of the darkened sky, hitting the ground right next to Kol. The sound was so loud, it made him go deaf for a few moments. The ground shattered, sending splinters everywhere, and then the small patches of grass caught fire.
"What the fu-" Eve started to yell, then ran toward Kol. She pulled a piece of paper out of her back pocket, and held it in front of herself as she ran. There was a symbol on it.
Kol stopped looking at the part of the land the lightning had struck when he heard growling again. He looked at it, and was met with those glowing green eyes. Whatever this dog was, it was no mindless beast. The animal was about to attack, but then it noticed Eve, and yelped.
"Begone from here forevermore!" the girl yelled, and the dog took off. It ran into a different section of the tall grass.
"Guys, we've got trouble," Olivia said.
"Yeah, no shit," Eve snapped, kneeling next to Kol. "Your leg's all fucked up, man."
"Yeah."
"Can you walk?"
"I think so." To prove it, he got up to his feet and took a few cautious steps forward. It hurt like a bitch, and he moved at a turtle's pace, but it would have to do. Eve was not about to lift him up.
"Guys, this is really, really bad," Olivia repeated.
Eve turned on her, ready to yell, then quickly realized the woman wasn't talking about Kol's injury.
The small patches of grass that caught fire earlier? Yeah, those lead to bigger patches, which then lead into the tall grass.
All around them, the fire was spreading. Looking at it, Kol found himself reminded of something. He heard screams in the back of his mind, and reached his hand forward as if to grab unto something - someone.
"This way," Eve said, forcing Kol's arm around her shoulders, then leading him toward the small rocky path she saw, which had yet to be engulfed in flame. "Don't just stand there!" she screamed at Olivia. "Call the firemen!"
Olivia, too stunned to talk, nodded, and pulled her phone out. She helped Eve half-carry Kol as she went through the conversation.
Kol looked at the redhead, noting all the different tokens lining her belt. "It was the mayor."
"What?" asked Eve.
"The mayor killed Oliver. That's why he was so useless today. Oliver and Martin were gay, so the mayor killed him to hide his shame."
"His own son?" asked Olivia.
Eve disagreed. "No chance in hell." They were walking down the rocky pathway now. "He came by to visit Natasha today. Old friends or something. He was bawling his eyes out, talking about how he had thought Oliver was alive all these years. He didn't even know I was in the house, so it wasn't an act."
"Damn," Kol cursed, dropping his composure. "And I thought we were done." They were close to the road, and the fire was close to the path. He looked at Olivia's belt again, and noticed something peculiar. "That symbol..."
Suddenly, he pushed Eve away, and put himself between the girl and Olivia, who now had a smirk on her face.
"Took you long enough." She unstrapped the token and held it up. "Immunity to fire. The same can't be said of you, sadly."
"You?" said Eve in shock. "But you're the one who called us here!"
The redhead chuckled, gently touching the fire behind her.
"She wanted us here," Kol realized. "Don't you see what those are, Eve? Olivia is a witch."
